The space

Today, it has been carefully restored in traditional style while offering all modern comforts.

Where you’ll be

Jokkmokk, Norrbottens län, Sweden

Björknäs Lodge, Swedish Lapland – Gateway to Europe’s Last Wilderness

Björknäs is located in Randijaur, a small village in Jokkmokk Municipality, in the magnificent mountain region of Norrbotten County – above the so-called cultivation limit. This vast wilderness covers almost 55,000 km², an area larger than Denmark, offering world-class, untouched nature.

Although the farm lies above the Arctic Circle, it’s easy to get here: fly to Luleå from Stockholm (several daily flights), rent a car, and drive for about 2.5 hours – and you’ve arrived in Europe’s last true wilderness.

Björknäs is one of the oldest settler farms in the area, established in 1691, and is beautifully situated on the Nautijaur River between Jokkmokk and Kvikkjokk. The road west ends in Kvikkjokk – gateway to Sarek, Tarradalen and Rapadalen – where the famous Kungsleden trail passes.

The farm lies on the Lilla Lule River system, with vast lakes such as Randijaur, Skalka and Saggat. Jokkmokk, famous for its 420-year-old Winter Market (celebrated in February 2025), is only 20 minutes away and offers supermarkets, services, and cultural experiences.

World-class fishing
In the river outside the house, you can catch large pike, perch and grayling. The big lakes offer impressive trout and Arctic char, and for salmon you can take a day trip to the legendary Jokkfall. In summer, you can buy the Jokkmokkskortet fishing licence, granting access to thousands of lakes, rivers, and streams. Fishing gear and boats are available for rent on site.

Winter adventures
In winter, explore the surroundings by snowmobile or head to Kvikkjokk to experience the majestic Tarradalen. Snowmobiles are available for hire. For skiing, Kåbdalis is just 45 minutes away, and Dundret in Gällivare can be reached in about an hour by car. If you are a skilled freerider, you can go heli-skiing at the massifs Tarrekasie (1828 m a.s.l.) and Staika (1795 m a.s.l.). Substantial drop heights of between 900 and 1350 meters are offered, with up to 7 km of off-piste runs in an untouched high alpine environment.

At Björknäs, you will find a place where history, nature, and tranquillity create an experience you will never forget.
