Cozy and comfortable cabin in the mountains of Jølster, in the heart of Sunnfjord. Surrounded by mountain peaks, beautiful nature and unique views of Lake Jølstravatnet. This is the perfect base for exploring both the many trails and mountain peaks of the surrounding area as well as the fjord region of Vestlandet.
Bjørkelia Lodge is modernly decorated with a large portion of cozy factor and charm. Enjoy yourself in front of the fireplace with a good book, enjoy the view and the sunset from the terrace, set the table inside or outside for you and yours - and enjoy the holiday life.

The space
Although the cabin is located on the mountain, it is easily accessible by car. Parking is right by the front door, so you don't have to walk far. In winter, we recommend good tires or four-wheel drive.
The cabin sleeps 8, but is just as suitable for couples looking for a cozy and romantic hideaway as for a family of four with small children.

The lodge has 2 floors.
On the first floor you enter a tiled hallway with heating cables. Here there is plenty of space to hang your outerwear and put your ski boots to dry. The hallway leads to two bedrooms, bathroom and laundry room.
Bedroom 1: comfortable double bed with double set of pillows
Bedroom 2: bunk bed 120 cm mattress below and 90 cm mattress above
Bed linen and towels are ready for you upon arrival.
The bathroom is bright and spacious with shower, toilet, sink with good makeup light and mini sauna. You are free to use the washing machine.

On the second floor you will find a cozy and open living room and kitchen solution. In the large sofa you can lean back and enjoy the crackling in the wood stove or borrow the binoculars to see if you see an eagle or two. In the living room you can listen to your favorite music via bluetooth on the Marshall speaker, play board games or read one of the books on the bookshelf.
At the round rustic dining table there is room for six people and the chairs are comfortable to sit in. If you need a high chair, it is available in two variants - a Tripp-trapp and one from Ikea.

The kitchen is well equipped with most of what is needed to cook a good meal. Oven, stove, washing machine, refrigerator, microwave, hand blender, whisk, waffle iron, kettle and coffee maker to mention a few. Basics such as oil, salt, pepper, sugar, tea and coffee filters can be found in the kitchen cabinet.

Bedroom 3 is also located on the second floor next to the living room. Bunk bed with 120 cm mattress below and 90 cm mattress above. Lighting with a light chain creates a good and cozy atmosphere that many of our smallest guests appreciate.

The outdoor area has several zones. At the entrance area there is a seating area for two in lounge style. On the large terrace with the mountains as a background, the table can be set for the extended family. Here you also have access to a barbecue for those who wish to use it. Sun conditions are very good, especially in summer. From the porch you have panoramic views of the sunset and Jølstravatnet.

Guest access
The lodge is a two-part cabin. The neighboring cabin is wall to wall and the parking lot is shared with our nice neighbor. We appreciate that the driveway is open and that the car is parked at its own entrance.

Fishing rods and two old bicycles for lending in the shed. Wood for the fireplace is also included. Fire pans and lean-to are nearby.

Nature and experiences are right outside the front door - take a short or long walk. Remember good shoes and a goretex jacket because the weather can change quickly here in the west.

Feel at home - we hope you will enjoy both Jølster and the cabin in the best possible way. We have put a lot of thought into the cabin and hope you will do the same.

Other things to note
Bjørkelia Lodge is located in the middle of Ålesund and Bergen. It is an advantage to have a car if you want to explore all the cool places here in the fjord district. Bucketlist places such as Loen, Olden, Briksdalen, glaciers and Gaularfjellet are 1- 1.5 hours away by car.
But fortunately, you don't have to travel far to experience the same thing, just without queuing. Jølster is a hidden gem, so here you can enjoy beautiful surroundings in peace and quiet.
Sunnfjord is often referred to as the kingdom of waterfalls for its countless waterfalls and streams. The water is clean and fresh mountain water - feel free to fill up the drinking bottle out on the trip.
Jølster offers rich fishing waters and is known for its trout. Here you have great opportunities to try your luck at fishing or rent a kayak. We also highly recommend a trip to Astruptunet, the home of the famous Norwegian painter and graphic artist Nikolai Astrup. It is idyllically located on the south side of Jølstravatnet, a nice bike ride away.
More information about Jølster and the cabin can be found in the house manual and the guides to Bjørkelia Lodge.

Where you’ll be

Jølster, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway

As the nearest neighbor you will find Jølster Ski Center. Are you lucky enough to visit Bjørkelia Lodge in winter we can possibly boast one of Norway's best ski in/ski out? It is only 10 meters from the front door to the ski lift. The Jølster Ski Center is dewy-based and many of our local heroes help to ensure that the trails, elevators, kiosk, fire pit and alpine slope are for the enjoyment of anyone who comes to visit. In winter there are also good opportunities to see northern lights from the porch of the cabin.

In the neighborhood you will find cabins and many great mountain hikes/ski trips, both easy for families and more challenging for the mountain van. The hiking trails are diligent in use by local people. Feel free to welcome the ones you meet - Happy travels.
Nature is at your doorstep, and it's not uncommon for animals like hare, foxes, chickens, and eagles to be seen on a trip. If you are really lucky, you can meet the reindeer herd at the top of Kvamsfjellet or inwards towards the glacier landscape.

If you are looking for an active holiday, there is a lot to choose nearby: golf course and golf simulator, river paddling and rafting, mountain trout fishing, sauna and swimming, bike and kayak rental, glacier walking and other guided experiences, museum and food experiences/classes.
