The space
Whether you are a nature lover or a nature photographer, the place has a completely unique location. The animal and bird life is rich, while the nature is as if picked out of a fairy tale.
We can also tempt you with an unusual outdoor toilet and outdoor shower with a completely one-way glass in front, where you can enjoy the nature outside... but no one can see in.
We have set up a pier and a shelter and have our own boat at your disposal, as well as an electric grill, fire pan and firewood ready for guests.
Discounts for multiple nights.
Guest access
Guests have the entire place to themselves. There is a pier with some simple seating next to the Birdbox. We also have a rowboat that is at our guests' disposal as long as the temperatures are not below freezing. The boat is available from the last week of May to the last weekend of October. Gapahuk is also set up for all our guests. There is a charcoal and electric grill, benches and a firewood storage.
The small birds and squirrels will be very happy to have some seeds and nuts. You can find these under the bench in the shelter
Other things to note
This experience is almost like a hiking trip, but the tent and sleeping bag is replaced with a cozy and comfortable Birdbox. Bring food and drinks, good clothes and a headlamp, just like if you were going hiking in the mountains.
Guests can get drinking water from the well house, which is located about 100 meters from the shelter. Follow the path by the tree line up towards the red cabin. On the left side of the well house you will find a tap for drinking water. Turn carefully as there may be a lot of pressure in the tap.
Please take care of the nature in the area. Don't litter. There is plenty of garbage containers in the area you can throw your garbage in. Dont throw cigarette buds etc in nature. And do not cut down trees or bushes. If you need firewood, you can buy this from us, or you can bring your own.
The shower is very basic, but it's a unique experience with an exceptional view. To use the shower you need to heat water in a metal bucket over the camp fire, and manually pump the water up to the shower.
We can not guarantee that the shower is operational all the time, especially during winter season, due to the cold climate.
The toilet is in the same unit, with the same one-way glass.
The Birdbox is located in Tokke kommune, almost in the middle between all the main cities of southern Norway. Its around 3 hrs drive from Oslo, Kristiansand and Stavanger, and around 5 hrs drive from Bergen, (During winter its 5+ hrs from Stavanger as well, due to winter closed roads.)

Where you’ll be
Tokke, Vestfold og Telemark, Norway
Experience the surrounding area, for example Åmdals Verk, with a rich history of mining, while you can experience the mines up close.
Once you are in the area, we highly recommend a visit to the Dalen "ghost" hotel from 1894, or a trip to the beautiful sauna Soria Moria. The sauna can be ordered on the website of the visit valley. You may want to book in good time before you come as there are many who take advantage of this.
Experience culture and history with a trip to the West Telemark museum, right by the beautiful Eidsbord Stave Church. The area can also tempt with amazing mountain hikes such as Lårdalstigen and ravnejuvet. We recommend checking out visit telemark's website.
In the summer there are great swimming opportunities with 2 beautiful beaches just a boat trip towards Åmdal's verk. In winter there are great ski slopes and ski lifts in the area.
