Relax, Recharge and Rejuvenate at Bliss. Spectacular in summer, cosy in winter. Perfect for families, from the deck you can easily see the kids down on the beach or on the wharf.

"Bliss" where a secluded beach is an extension of the front yard along with spectacular views of Pittwater and the perfect north-east aspect.

Solar power and rainwater tanks makes Bliss very eco-friendly.

The space
Arrive by the punt from Palm Beach right onto the sand in front of the house - always a fabulous way to start your break. Luggage handling is easy - no need to negotiate any tidal paths.

Bliss is perfect for long extended family lunches on the main deck with spectacular views to Barrenjoey Head and across Pittwater. Just a few stairs down to the very private feeling beach which feels like an extension of the yard.

We want you to feel like you have borrowed an old friend's beach house to get away from it all and we are happy to provide tips and guidance on the area and for provisions on the way here. Make sure you grab the vinyls and spin some tunes from the eccentric record collection.

The main part of the house has two bedrooms one with 2 bunks and the other with a queen size bed along with a family bathroom. The kitchen has been restored with a nod to the 60's and it has everything you need to cook up a storm including spices, baking ingredients, olive oil, balsamic etc. We have an ISOMAC Italian coffee machine and also a Nespresso machine for the coffee addicts among us.

Accessed by external stairs the Parent's Retreat is almost self-contained with its own en-suite and private deck. It also has its own Nespresso machine so you can hide away in the morning with your coffee. There are two outdoor showers one by the boat-shed just 3 steps from the beach and another quite private one with hot and cold water up the stairs behind the house (using the main water tanks).

With a spectacular garden and one of only 2 boat-sheds actually on the beach "Bliss" is a veritable wonderland. With kayaks, water-craft, blow up toys and a home gym - it caters for the active amongst us. For the less active, or as a reward after that work-out or kayak the boat-shed also has a bar-fridge, a wine fridge and a hotplate for on-the-beach picnics or cocktails under the ancient frangipanis.

The boat-shed is stocked with beach and gym towels for your stay.

The hosts often use the boat shed as a home office and it is equipped with a screen and adapters to get connected and you can have quick dips in the water between zoom meetings!

In winter, get some wood off the pile behind the house and have a red wine (or three) by the original sandstone fire place.

Bliss harks back to simple times - a guest has described it as "Shack-luxe". We have restored the house to its original 60's condition and it might feel like you are in a lovely nostalgic time warp. The kitchen is the actual original kitchen and does not have a dishwasher - many of our guests train their children to wash the dishes at Bliss! Or have an old fashioned chin wag while washing and drying up.

If you can tear yourself away there is some spectacular lunch time dining at Palm Beach.

Guest access
Access to the whole house - the lower floor is the master bedroom (accessed by external stairs) which is a great retreat which has its own intimate deck and en-suite. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a family bathroom with an open plan kitchen, lounge, dining and a deck with spectacular views over Pittwater.

There are lots of spaces to sit and relax in the terraced garden and don't forget the boat shed and the sheltered area under our frangipanis on the beach.

Other things to note
The house is water access only - we provide basics like olive oil, balsamic vinegar, coffee pods, coffee beans, a selection of spices and some baking ingredients. There is enough equipment to cook up a storm and there are tried and true recipes in the guide if you are looking for ideas!

It's so easy to go on a bush walk in Kuringai National Park to see spectacular scenery and aboriginal rock art or go on a kayak around Pittwater. Or just lay in the sun on any of the deckchairs or sofas reading a book!

This is our special bit of paradise and we love to share it.

The house relies on tank water and we ask our guests to use water sparingly.

Neighborhood highlights

Mackerel Beach is a very close knit community of about 80 houses on the fringe of Sydney - its water access only from Palm Beach. The locals are very friendly and they will usually help out. There are particular community rules for dogs and for the wheelbarrows which are included in the guide to the house.

All of the houses at Great Mackerel Beach rely on rain water collected into tanks from our roofs. There is no town water here and water needs to be used carefully.

From the moment we landed at Great Mackerel Beach over 20 years ago it became our sanctuary. In 2017 we moved into the dilapidated "Bliss" with the beach being an extension of its yard. We have renovated it back to it's 60's roots. We love sharing our beachfront home with our lovely guests. It's such a slice of paradise. We are in easy telephone contact to help with any issues. Whenever we travel we love using Airbnb and meeting other hosts.
