Welcome to Bear Lodge! Whether you're coming for a multi-family trip or a friends weekend, escape the hustle and bustle and relax in a spacious single-story 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom log home with lofted ceilings, large picture windows with lots of natural light, 10-person dining table, several indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, an outdoor deck, and separate firepit on a quiet, highly wooded cul-de-sac near Bryce Resort in Basye, Virginia.
The space

Bear Lodge guests receive access to Bryce Resort's private beach at Lake Laura for up to 6 guests throughout the summer lake season (Memorial Day - Labor Day).
The lodge boasts three separate inside gathering spaces:
- The front entry seating area features a West Elm couch and two arm chairs, perfect for conversation or playing a game at the herringbone coffee table.
- The main gathering space near the working stone fireplace features a 6-person leather sectional, a modern upholstered bench and a 75” flatscreen television with external soundbar.
- For the introverts in the group, the Master Bedroom has an attached enclosed sun porch with a peaceful swing bed and office desk for a quiet space to relax and read a book or catch up on work emails.
- You will find Bear Lodge equipped with 20+ board games and card games to keep your crowd laughing and playing together.
- The home is equipped with high speed internet for all your devices, whether you choose to use the desk to work from [your home away from] home or log onto your video steaming accounts on the home's smart TV. We also have YouTube TV available for your use while at the Bear Lodge.
In addition to the interior gathering spaces, your group will enjoy all the outside spaces at Bear Lodge:
- The firepit on the front side of the house is perfect for those after-dinner s’mores! We have a well-stocked shed with firewood for your outdoor campfire.
- The sliding glass doors on one of the back bedrooms opens to an alcove deck shaded by pine trees where two people can relax in the red Adirondack chairs and look out on the undeveloped forest land adjacent to the Lodge.
- The main part of the deck features an 8-person dining table for outdoor dining or drinks, whether a shaded midday meal in sunny weather or by the glow of the festive string lights in the evenings. Enjoy a BBQ dinner using the propane grill. An outdoor sectional seating area is a perfect spot to relax after a day of staying in and enjoying all Bear Lodge has to offer, or after a busy day of golfing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, tubing, swimming or boating at Lake Laura, winery tastings, or wherever your Shenandoah Valley or Bryce Resort adventures take you!
Eating and cooking spaces:
- The open concept kitchen in the center of the house is a central gathering spot with a large white quartz island to prep meals, eat, or sit and check email (4 in-island outlets could handle all those options simultaneously!).
- The open concept floor plan allows guests to cook or converse in the kitchen/dining space while still feeling part of the action in the family room. Next to the refrigerator and pantry is a coffee bar station with both K-cup and ground coffee makers, coffee mugs galore, and a temperature-controlled water pot for tea.
- The kitchen is well equipped with dinnerware, silverware, glasses, wine glasses, pots and pans, cutting boards, kitchen towels, utensils, baking dishes, baking sheets, crockpot, toaster, waffle maker, Ninja blender, Kitchenaid mixer, etc… everything you need to prepare a feast at the 10-person dining table!
- For the little tikes in your group, we have two high chairs, a toddler booster seat, toddler and child silverware, plates, bowls and plastic cups.
Bedrooms:
- Four bedrooms feature queen-sized beds with all-season down comforters. An non-down comforter can be provided at request. Three of the five bedrooms have their own private ensuite bathroom. In addition to central heat and AC, there are in-room ceiling fans in three bedrooms.
- The 5th bedroom features a twin bunkbed. For the kids in the group (or the kids at-heart), there are children’s books, toys including Lincoln Logs (if you want to try your hand at recreating Bear Lodge), and a kid’s teepee - perfect for playtime imaginations!
- Upon request, we can provide most items your littlest guests might need including two Pack n Plays with sheets and toddler bed rail so you won’t need to lug all those extras from home.
Bathrooms:
- There are 4 bathrooms at Bear Lodge: two bathrooms have tubs and two bathrooms have enclosed showers. We provide guests with makeup wipes, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, q tips, cotton balls, toilet paper and hair dryers in every bathroom... less to think about and bring as you pack for your vacation!
Dog-Friendly Property:
Bring your whole family - including your four-legged family member - to this warm, welcoming retreat. Bear Lodge offers comfort, convenience, and plenty of tail-wagging fun.
- Roads around the property are quiet and great for going on scenic walks. The HOA requires all dogs to be on leashes while in public spaces.
- There is a dog park less than a mile from the house to let your dog run and enjoy the mountain air.
- We know how much you love your four-legged family member! Your dog should not be left unattended at the property during your stay.
Other things to note
All you need to bring for your stay at Bear Lodge are your personal belongings and food for your stay! Basye is an awesome place to escape everything; if you are planning on cooking in, you may want to stock up with groceries before you get to Basye (closest grocery stores are in Mt. Jackson and Woodstock) although the Community Store will suffice for last minute items.
We welcome both weekenders as well as longer stays. Note a 3 night minimum is required for all holiday weekends.
