One of Bardo Cabins' two, four-season sister-cabins; Maple Cabin is quietly nestled below a granite outcrop among towering old pines on the beautiful, semi-private, fifteen acre Dube Lake. Hike, bike, snowshoe or ski the private two kilometers of trails, swim and sunbathe from your own floating dock or wade at a nearby sandy shore, chill bug-free on the screened-in porch listening to the sounds of Bardo's surrounding ten acres of mixed old growth forest, or venture beyond to nearby amenities.
The space
*towels are not provided; bed linens, blankets, pillows, and dish towels are.
*if available, both of Bardo's cabins can be reserved for a concurrent period for the ultimate two family getaway. Send us a note to inquire.
Maple Cabin is a rustic and cozy five hundred square feet, with two bedrooms, a brand-new full bathroom with shower stall, and a living room/kitchen common area. The living room has a large sectional with a pullout bed, an HDMI-ready smart tv with streaming apps, Starlink high-speed internet, wifi, and a wood stove. The kitchen is well-appointed with an electric stove, reduced-size oven and a four-seat dining table (which can be extended to 6 with the middle integrated leaf). The attached screened in porch has a four seat dining table and a four burner gas grill for outdoor dining.
There is a flight of stairs down from the parking area, and more stairs back up to the cabin. A hundred foot trail leads to our other cabin, but in summer there is some privacy provided between them by the forest foliage. The cabin has its own dock with excellent weed-free, deep water swimming. The 100-foot boardwalk out to the swimming dock crosses a unique floating bog ecosystem filled with rare plants and dwarf trees, frogs, turtles and a resident beaver family. Watch out for our resident old snapping turtle Sheldon. He loves hotdogs, but prefers not to be touched. There is only four dwellings on Lake Dube; two of them make up Bardo Cabins, the others are often unoccupied. There is no motors on the lake. Right across the street there is a public swimming area with a shallow, sandy shoreline perfect for youngsters not quite ready for plunging off our dock.
There are more than two kilometers of marked trails throughout the property, ideal for hiking and mountain biking spring to fall, and nordic skiing and snowshoeing in the winter (snowshoes provided). We don't permit motorized vehicles on the property beyond the parking area, but there’s a long network of top shelf atv/snowmobile/biking trails very close by (Seguin Recreation Trail). For the paddlers we have a canoe, a tandem kayak, two youth kayaks, and two inflatable SUPs to share between the two cabins. Access to a network of paddling and portaging and excellent Bass fishing is right across the street on Lake Manitouwaba.
All roads to Bardo Cabins are paved and plowed in the winter. Our parking area and the steps to the cabins are also regularly cleared of snow and salted.
The cabin’s water is from the lake and is passed through a state of the art filtration system. A reverse-osmosis-filtered drinking water tap can be found on the kitchen sink. We drink the water and test it regularly, but we can't guarantee it for you. If you'd prefer, bring along your own drinking water.
The cabin has a lakeside campfire pit. We provide the firewood, which we process ourselves for your use, at our pleasure.
Guest access
You'll have the run of the place, along with anyone staying in the other cabin. There is a similar, third cabin to the east of Pine Cabin that is not ours. Please be respectful of your neighbours (if there are any).
You might run into some neighbours on the private trails. Likely not.
