Where you’ll be
Saint-Paul, Réunion
Saint-Gilles-Les-Bains is the first seaside destination in Réunion because it gives access to a coastline lined with several popular beaches:
The Plage des Roches Noires, 15 seconds to the south on foot, has a net to make family swimming safe and a surveillance and rescue station, and a snack bar right on the sand (Le Bololos). In case of swell, however, the nets can be removed and in this case you will have to head to the more sheltered lagoon.
The Brisants beach, within walking distance, located immediately after the port, offers a choice of restaurants (Le Sauvage) after a game of beach tennis or a surf session supervised by a lookout (inquire). The brave can even jog to the Hermitage lagoon located in the extension a few hundred meters away or just 10 minutes by car. Bike rental can also be a nice alternative.
200 m away, the marina right next door offers all the water activities you can dream of (jet ski, catamaran, diving, deep-sea fishing, aquarium) and a pier for your walks. Access via a large wooden walkway spanning the sea will give you access to many restaurants (fresh fish!) and several atmosphere or dance bars (the Titty Twister) for lively nightlife (karaoke at the marine bar and at the Voile Blanche for those who like to sing :) )
15 seconds north of the Residence, the Esplanade and its magnificent panoramic view of the Indian Ocean and its waves offers a choice of restaurants, bars, snack bars to relax and eat at any time of the day and Boucan Canot beach is only a few minutes by car, bus and can be reached by bike or on foot off the main roads. There too, effective swimming nets except in case of heavy swell and a monitoring station, many restaurants.
The city center is just a short walk from the calm of the residence and you will find all the shops (supermarkets, banks, restaurants, shops, pharmacy, doctors, bakery...) you may need as well as some dance bars for party animals. Les Toiles Noires will delight Geeks and unconditional fans of video games and Quiz nights and open scenes with a very friendly welcome (tables and benches, game consoles, PC gamers, burgers, local draft beers). Don't miss the famous samosas, chilli candies and Creole specialty from Loulou's down the street from the post office or Marie B's ice cream on the same street right next door where you can also order pizzas.
