Step Into Durham’s Rich History
Durham is a city with a deep and inspiring history, especially tied to Black entrepreneurship and community development. In the early 20th century, Black Wall Street—located just a short distance from our home—was a thriving hub for Black-owned businesses, financial institutions, and cultural influence. Anchored by Parrish Street, this district was home to businesses like the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company and Mechanics and Farmers Bank, which played a pivotal role in Black economic empowerment during segregation.
Just a stroll from the suite, you can visit historical markers, museums, and cultural spaces that celebrate this legacy. The Nasher Museum on Duke University’s campus and the Museum of Durham History offer deeper insights into Durham’s role in civil rights, Black entrepreneurship, and the arts.
