Guest access
Like other homes in the area, we are on a mountain. Please note that the driveway has a significant incline and YOU WILL NEED AWD DURING WINTER WEATHER. It's honestly a good idea year round for visiting the area. Vehicles like sedans or others that ride low will not clear and struggle with our driveway. Please be aware of this at the time of booking and make appropriate plans for your stay. If you aren't sure please ask us any questions as we are happy to help.

Guests have self check-in via an electronic keypad/Smart Lock at the main-level entrance and exclusive access to the entire A-frame and surrounding 2 acres. Free on-premises parking is available for 4+ cars.

The home has two sets of steep stairs, which may not suit every guest or party. Exterior security cameras are present on the property.

Other things to note
- Minimum age to rent is 25 years old.

- Only guests listed on original booking are permitted to stay on property. If you have changes to your reservation please alert host prior to check in to correctly update your booking. We appreciate it!

- The home accommodates a maximum of 6 adults, or up to 8 guests when children are included.

- Check-in is at 3:00 PM on arrival day and checkout is at 10:00 AM on departure day. These times are firm so the cleaning team can sanitize and reset the cabin. If the cabin is ready early, the host will let you know. Early check-in or late checkout may be available for a $50 fee; please inquire in advance.

- Mountain weather can be unpredictable. Refunds are not offered due to inclement weather; consider travel insurance when booking.

- Appalachian A Frame is dog friendly! House trained, well behaved pups are welcome with advance notice and prior approval from us. There is an additional $75 flat pet fee and we allow up to 2 dogs (no cats) per stay. Dogs are not permitted on furniture or in beds.

Neighborhood highlights

Sugar Grove is a quiet, quaint community just outside Valle Crucis about 20 minutes from Downtown Boone and Appalachian State. Our road is directly off HWY 321. Our cabin sits at 3,000 feet elevation and is on a hilled lot; back deck looks over Rush Branch Road. While private, we are not secluded and do have a few neighbors nearby. We are also just a short drive from dining options, stores and attractions.

Where I went to school: Ohio University
My work: Mom x3/ Yoga Teacher
Hey, there! We're John and Emily South. Two Ohio kids who hightailed it to NC after graduating from Ohio University over a decade ago. In that time we've gotten married, bought three fixer-uppers, started a family business (Shoestring Productions), rescued two pups and made three rather cool kids of our own. Early in our marriage we fell in love with the NC Mountains and said someday we'd have our own place there. We can't believe that day is here and we are so excited to share our sweet little A - Frame with you, your family and friends - all are welcome here.
