AKIYA cornerstone
Escape the pace of the city and experience the quiet rhythm of life in a small Japanese island farming community. Surrounded by rice paddies, our self-renovated Japanese Minka House is a mix of Japanese traditional mud walls fitted with early 19th century English windows and doors. Take a walk through the village and you will glimpse a slower, more nostalgic life as it once was and at the top of the mountain you will be greeted by a panoramic view of the island’s west coast.
The space
We have preserved the original framework and earthen walls of the traditional house that has stood there for generations, combining them with 19th century antique English doors and windows actually to create a space where the antiquity of Japan and the UK blend together.
From the door frames and windows to the dog run and even the sauna we have crafted almost everything with our own hands.
This is not a mass-produced hotel but rather a house that feels like a ‘liveable work of art’, built bit by bit with time and care.
In the morning you may wake up to the sound of birds chirping, and on opening the window you will feel the mountain breeze.
During the day you can let your dogs run about freely on the lawn, and in the evening gather around the campfire for a leisurely chat.
Work up a sweat in your own private wood-fired sauna, cool down in the cold plunge pool then enjoy some fresh air and laze about on the wooden deck under the stars.
You can bake your own pizza in our wood-fired pizza oven, have a barbecue or soak your troubles away in the traditional Japanese ‘goemon’ bath.
Sometimes the most meaningful moments come from simply slowing down. Just being here can make your heart feel a little lighter.
We created this place to be that kind of space.

An international couple, a Japanese and Australian who originally operated a fashion brand.
To change my environment, I bought a dilapidated house on Awaji Island, which I thought was an uninhabited island in 2015, and moved there.
The abandoned house was renovated by ourselves and reborn as a small old private house "AKIYA nehemiah" right in front of the Seto Inland Sea, and we started renting it out in July 2020 and launched "AKIYA AWAJI".
I wanted to manage the inn and listen to the voices of my guests, so that I could make them feel very satisfied again for my guests. The inn is "AKIYA cornerstone".
This is also a ruin like the first one, and it took a year and a half to fully renovate it, and we were able to start renting it out from March 2023.
I like old and tasty things, and I want to see the possibilities that are completely thrown away with no potential.
"Trash to treasure" Insta, Youtube, and website are updating their details.
