The space
A gladak, a Javanese wooden house rebuilt and reimagined, standing over the rice fields.
Your own art studio to disappear into, a porch with a hammock, and a small library of books on creativity, culture and a few all-time favourites. You share a big 4×10m pool and an open kitchen with the one neighbouring gladak, so the place is private when you want it and a little social when you don't. Retreat into your own house, or meet your neighbour by the pool. Both are valid.
Mornings, that shared kitchen by the pool is where breakfast happens, and the other Temple villas come over too. A slow community breakfast over coffee, or take it back to your porch. Breakfast included. Polished cement, steel-frame windows, white-painted wood, pastel tropical murals. Designed and built by hand by contemporary artist Ole Ukena.

We're in Kenderan, a working Balinese village in the Tegallalang hills, about twelve minutes by scooter from central Ubud. Your villa is private: your own pool, your own studio, your own kitchen. Breakfast is included.
Getting here is easy: search "AIR Temple" on Google Maps and it brings you right to us, and a car can drive all the way to the villa. We can arrange airport pickup too. Just message us your arrival time.
This is real countryside. You'll meet geckos, frogs, the occasional unidentifiable bug, and there's no 24-hour front desk. The tropics are humid, more so in rainy season. Come ready for it.

AIR Temple sits in Kenderan, a working farming village in the Tegallalang hills, twelve minutes from central Ubud. Locals call it the Village of Holy Water. Eleven springs run through it, each tied to a temple and a rice cooperative. It's the village's water system, not a resort feature.
A few minutes' walk away: the Manuaba waterfall, two cascades fed by seven springs, where villagers come for melukat, the Balinese water-purification rite. Pura Telaga Waja, a thousand-year-old water temple, sits down in a river ravine, still in daily use, reached by a footpath through the paddies. In the rice fields nearby, two stone sarcophagi from 500 to 200 BC, older than any recorded Balinese kingdom. On a clear dry-season morning, Mount Agung shows itself over the terraces.
This is the real Bali people look for and rarely find. Wood-carvers and stone-cutters at work, daily offerings, ceremonies that run on the harvest calendar, not the tourist one. Downtown Ubud, with its restaurants and studios, is a twelve-minute scooter ride. You get the village and the town both.
