Our "A Step Away from Downtown Saugatuck" townhouse offers a downtown location along with a back yard, a deck, two levels of living space, and we're dog friendly. The 2 bedroom and 1.5 bath home is located behind our retail store in downtown Saugatuck (guests receive a discount on their purchases made during their stay). Extended stays are welcome & strong Wi-Fi allows for a seamless escape. Lastly, dogs are allowed (w/pre-approval & pet fee).
The space
This townhouse style home is just "A Step Away" from downtown Saugatuck. It's a couple hundred feet from the marina on the Kalamazoo River. The townhouse has been professionally decorated and offers great interior spaces and amenities and we're always updating our home. The townhouse is large enough so that you can share the home with up to six people (and a dog/additional fee) but also find a space to call your own. Step outdoors and enjoy the exclusive use back yard and maybe an alfresco dinner on your deck area. Relax, it's Saugatuck.
Guest access
The townhouse is fully self-contained and has a private entrance. The home is part of an antique colonial structure that also includes our lifestyle mercantile store: The store (see photo) is located at street level at the front of the first floor only and the townhouse is at the rear of the first floor and the townhouse is also on the entire second floor (that's why we call it a townhouse). The home offers a level back yard (with a grill) and a rear/side deck area (with plenty of patio furniture). Guests of our townhouse have access and exclusive use of our back yard and you'll have your own deck area right outside the great room*. Guests staying at "A Step Away" are near all that Saugatuck has to offer.
All “A Step Away” guests are invited to visit our Kindel & Company retail stores in downtown Saugatuck at 241 Culver Street and downtown Holland at 14 W. 8th Street. Stop in for local tips, restaurant recommendations, shopping suggestions, or just to say hello. We like to call it our “lite” concierge service. A Step Away guests also receive an exclusive in-store discount at both locations.
*We (or the landscaper) might need to tend to landscaping/lawn/watering and use the shed out back but this won't be done too early or too late in the day.

This home is for the exclusive use of you and your guests. It shares the building with our retail store (at front street level) but your home has an exclusive use rear yard and rear deck.

Our homes are thoroughly cleaned by local professionals with whom we’ve built long-term relationships. Cleaning protocols are monitored and updated by your hosts as needed, and we regularly inspect each home.

RESERVATION GUIDELINES:
Please enter the number of guests (and dogs, if applicable) when submitting an inquiry or reservation request.
The primary renter must be 25 years of age or older.
Parties are not permitted.
FEES AND TAXES:
PET FEES & EXPECTATIONS
Certain dogs (maximum of two) are considered, subject to host approval and a per-stay pet fee. Please do not use Instant Book unless your dog(s) have been approved in advance. The pet fee will be added to your reservation as long as you include the number of pets during booking or inquiry. If you’d like to add approved dogs to an existing reservation, please contact the host directly. A fee adjustment will be sent before your arrival.
Pet Etiquette Expectations:
Dogs must be leashed when not in a fenced area. Owners are expected to clean up after their dogs and dispose of waste appropriately. Excessive or constant barking, especially during quiet hours, is not permitted. Dogs should not be left alone in the home for extended periods. If any damage occurs, please notify the host immediately.
SALES TAXES:
In accordance with Michigan law, a 6% sales/use tax applies to the base rate and all additional fees (e.g., cleaning, pet, or extra person fees). Airbnb collects and remits this tax on your behalf.
BEFORE and DURING YOUR STAY:
Lawn care may take place during your stay, but not during early or late hours. An automatic sprinkler system runs during the growing season.
Please dispose of all garbage and recycling (Saugatuck does not offer weekly recycling) in the waste bins located at the rear of the home. On Sundays, we collect trash for Monday’s curbside pickup.
CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS:
Place all used towels in the bathroom and leave dirty linens on unmade beds.
Load and run the dishwasher with any dirty dishes before departing.
If you use the propane grill, please burn off food remnants and clean the grates with the wire brush provided (located near the propane tank).
Turn off all lights, close all windows, and adjust the HVAC to the specified temperature before leaving.
Finally, lock the door using the digital entry lock.
