Aspen Sunrise Bear Lake

DarrenRating, 5 stars7 months ago
This was truly one of the best vacations we have had. This has been our favorite house that we’ve stayed at so far. We ran in to a few hiccups due to our own poor planning and our host helped solve our problem even though it was due to our own lack of preparing. I can’t say enough about this stay. The peaceful mornings looking over the lake made the perfect start to every morning. The private access to Ideal beach was wonderful. The house is spacious and the list goes on and on. We are already planning our next year’s stay back at this house. Thank you again for a wonderful experience.

It was comfortable and clean. More than adequate bedding and pillows. Kitchen was well supplied. The area was beautiful. The pool, hot tub and gym were just a short walk away.

Beautiful, unique Yurt The Rendezvous-TV-Fireplace

TarniaRating, 5 stars33 months ago
It was a great experience staying in a yurt for the first time; we appreciate the aesthetic design of the place which perfectly accommodate our family vacation necessities. This place exceeded our expectation. Our only concern is they didn’t have backups for power outage, so go prepare incase of blackouts… but other than that, I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this place for any family to explore the beauty of Bear lake adventures. Our host Melissa was so responsive to all the inquiries & concerns I had via email, phone calls and texts. If it possible I would add extra 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌟 to this place.

Bear Lake Cabin w/ Beach Access

MeganRating, 5 stars6 months ago
Larry was extremely responsive to any questions we had. Right after I booked, he made sure I understood that we were coming out of season and many things would be closed. Which gave me time to cancel for a full refund, if I had wanted to do that. My kids loved the place. It has plenty of room, especially plenty of bathroom capacity. Gorgeous surroundings. We played down at the lake, and enjoyed nearby hiking. It was everything we had hoped for.

The pictures don't do justice to how beautiful the location is! The view from the balcony and the patio is breathtaking! The property feels very private and peaceful. The place has all the amenities listed, was very clean and we had a great stay. The location was quite convenient as it was a short drive to all the eateries around town. Overall, a great place for a weekend in Bear lake.

Blue Bear Lake House - Sleeps 26

EllenRating, 5 stars8 months ago
The Blue Bear Lake House was the perfect place to host our family gathering! A gorgeous setting with all the amenities we could ask for. We used all 26 beds and even a bit of floor space and everyone was comfortable and happy. We prepared 3 evening meals and had plenty of pots, pans, cutting boards, knives, and utensils to put it all together. The spacious kitchen & fridge/freezer held everything and then some. We did morning barre on the back lawn and the kids loved the play set! We used both the BBQ and the fire pit and everything was perfect. Thanks for a great time!

Bear Lake Whiskey N Water lake house

SherriRating, 5 stars8 months ago
Angela has thought of everything for her guests…good selection of small appliances in kitchen, shark dishes for kids (or adults😄), usb port in kitchen island, sharp knives, heating and cooling options in every room, built in toddler potty seat, night lights, spotless remotes, make up wipes in bathrooms…I could go on and on. It rained a lot during our stay but even that was wonderful because the view is incredible no matter the weather or time of day. Angela made our stay comfortable, easy, and memorable.

We have stayed at this home for years. We love the quiet, serene surroundings and that it is just minutes from North Beach! We always get a shake at the Bear Cave and like sitting out on the porch and just enjoying the calm nights.

Your guide to Bear Lake

All About Bear Lake

On the border of Utah and Idaho, around 2.5 hours north of Salt Lake City, you’ll find Bear Lake, a freshwater lake with 50 miles of shoreline and dozens of inviting sandy beaches. Bear Lake is often referred to as the Caribbean of the Rockies for its sparkling blue waters, which are caused by its rich source of calcium carbonate particles that reflect a blue hue on the surface. Rendezvous Beach, just outside of Garden City, Utah, is a sandy beach that’s popular for water skiing and boating. North Beach State Park on the Idaho side is a Bear Lake favorite, with a two-mile stretch of sand featuring clear waters that are ideal for swimming. For a quieter experience, head to the more secluded East Beach on the Idaho side.

Garden City is the main town on the lake and a great base from which to explore the region. You’ll find cafes and restaurants here, from family grills to pizza places, as well as shops for groceries and souvenirs. Garden City also has a sandy beach and is home to the region’s biggest summer event, the Raspberry Days Festival.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Bear Lake

Summer is a great time to stay in Bear Lake rentals, as you can expect plenty of warm and sunny days for the beach. The nights can be cooler, so it’s a good idea to pack a jacket alongside your sun protection. In August, the popular Raspberry Days festival takes place in Garden City over three days to celebrate the raspberry harvest. This festival features a craft fair, parade, and fireworks on the beach.

If you’re here in the fall, you’ll find vibrant colors, cooler temperatures, and fewer crowds. September and October are the best months for birdwatching on the lake, as many species prepare to head south for the winter. Spring is also a quieter time with fewer crowds and cooler temperatures, which is ideal for hiking and biking. In winter, Bear Lake experiences cold and snowy conditions, and the lake can freeze over. The Bear Lake Monster Winterfest in January is always popular, with chili cook-offs and the polar plunge into the lake’s icy waters.

Top things to do in Bear Lake

Limber Pine Trail

There are many hikes you can enjoy around the Bear Lake area. The 1.5-mile Limber Pine Trail is an easy loop stroll through pine forests, with views of the lake along the way. You’ll also come across the huge limber pine tree (actually five trees intertwined), more than 560 years old, which gives the trail its name. For something more challenging, take on the nine-mile Sink Hollow Trail through sagebrush meadows and aspens to the lovely Horse Lake. You’ll also enjoy amazing views of Steam Mill along the way.

Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge

Bear Lake is home to an abundance of birdlife, and one of the best spots for birding is at Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge on the Idaho side of the lake. The refuge encompasses nearly 2,000 acres of marshes, grasslands, and open waters where you can spot a variety of species, from sandhill cranes and herons to pelicans, ducks, and geese. Several walking trails and viewing areas here offer great vantage points.

Minnetonka Cave

Head to St. Charles Canyon on the Idaho side of the lake and explore the spectacular Minnetonka Cave. Inside, you’ll find around a half-mile of stalactites and stalagmites spread throughout nine cave rooms, with three impressive stalagmites that are more than 10 feet high. You will also come across a stalactite that’s been named the Bride, because of its lacy appearance that resembles a wedding dress. The cave is very cold all year round, so make sure you bring a warm layer.
