Cottage vacation rentals in Ballater

We walked in the property in awe..!! What an amazing place “house on the hill” is. My wife and I couldn’t stop looking out at the view even at night time when it was dark. Under floor heating and a log fire certainly keeps you cozy throughout your stay. We had a bath on both nights together and we could sit side by side it’s that big and take in the view of the stars and planets. That was a first for both of us..!!! The bed is that comfy my wife had decided we need one exactly like it and the same size, which I’ve agreed too. We took in a day in Elie, Pitwimmen, St Monans & Anstruther. We had breakfast at the Pavillion and meal at Ship Inn. Both places were lovely and great food. We haven’t had the luxury like this before so we are going to book again for next year. A fabulous stay, perfect for two. From the moment of booking, Ainslie was very quick to respond, her directions were excellent. The Old Dairy was very quirky with everything you could need provided, lots of lovely touches to make it very homely. For us we particularly loved the wood burner and the hot tub (My husband wasn’t sure about using the hot tub, but when he saw how immaculate it was, changed his mind). We were impressed with the internet, using star link it provided a very good connection. The weather was beautiful while we were there and we almost wished it wasn’t as we didn’t want to go anywhere with Netflix and an ultra HD large television, I thought providing movie pick and mix was a very thoughtful touch. Most impressive of all was Ainslie who was a perfect host we were greeted with handshake and went home with a hug. 🥰

This cottage was in a lovely quiet little village just a 3 minute walk to the main town. I could not fault this accommodation! It was beautiful done out and even had a hot tub for an extra bonus. The hosts were second to none and they made you feel at home. They recommended local places to eat and things to do. If you had any problems, they were happy to help! The accommodation was literally a 10 minute walk to Loch leven and it's so peaceful. All the locals were very friendly and you've got to try the fish shop and stove pizzas! corner cottage was particularly nice and my Lithuanian guests were taken back with our surprise for them .they enjoyed the hill climb on Lomond hill and walking around this quaint village , the hot tub was particularly satisfying after a long walk .overall this cottage is perfect so I'll definitely return .

Beautiful cottage, gorgeous area. Walking distance of the beach, harbour, shop and local pub. Jackie was a super friendly host, lives right next door so on hand to help. Modern corrage with everything you need, including a hot tub, lovely weekend break!

We had a beautiful home from home stay at this lovely cottage. Everything was perfect and an ideal set up for our toddler too. The garden was wonderful to explore and it was ideal to have the woodland paths right on our front door step. The hot tub on the bedroom patio was a little sun trap and perfect for relaxing. The cottage had everything we could have wanted and a well set up kitchen. Lots of do in the local area and an evening spent by the open fire was the perfect was to end the day. Laura was a really attentive host, accommodating our extra requests and meeting us at the property - thanks for a lovely stay we would absolutely love to come back.

We had a brilliant 4 day break at this lovely wee cottage. There was absolutely everything we needed for our stay and we loved all the extra wee decorative touches Brett has added too. We were blessed with sun every day and breakfast in the cute wee garden was a great way to start each day. Loved that we were 1 minutes walk from the beach and did a lot of exploring along this beautiful part of the coast. We even did a bit of body boarding in the sea too!! Would definitely stay again.

When you stay here, you’re staying in peace and tranquility. The cottage has everything you need, with everything to get you started such as teas and coffees (just remember your own milk). The owners allow dogs, but you wouldn’t know as when we arrived there were no signs of dog hair (nor smell!). The cottage overlooks farmland and we saw rabbits hopping along whilst we washed up. The owners were lovely, friendly and welcoming, but left us in peace too. It’s a great place for exploring the mountains and coastline and I’d definitely return.

Great place with fantastic equipment and set up, good kitchen and social spaces, overall spot in but worth noting it is quite close to the railway line, not a huge issue as it's quite a quiet line. Overall great.

A wonderful cottage in an excellent location! The cottage has a great selection of kitchen equipment and utensils, a relaxing lounge with games galore, if you wish, all you need for your stay. The bed was so comfortable which makes such a difference as you get older 🫣 My husband, myself and our two labs had a superb break! We loved the welcome from those that stayed in Seatown too. We had a great holliday. Location and the house were both perfect! The house was spotless and everything you need is there. Lots of great walks from the cottage. We all (family with 3 kids) had a wonderfull holiday.

The Couthy Cottage was very cozy and we loved it! Super cute and had everything we needed. It was convenient to restaurants, pubs, shops, the train station, and the Blair Castle. Our host Kate was so friendly and drove us to the Highland Games so we wouldn’t have to drive/park. We highly recommend the Couthy Cottage!

We were in Elie for 2 nights and the Cupboard was great for a short stay as we ate out both nights. Although exceptionally well equipped for such a short space it would have been difficult to cook. due to the lack of workspace. The design of the space is exceptional for the size of the space and the wood burner kept us lovely and cosy. There are 5 beds all together but it would have been a challenge having more than the 2 of us and our wee dog. We love Elie and will be back and it's very likely that we will use Short Stay St Andrews again.

We had a very good stay and the house was spotless. The surroundings were picturesque and very peaceful.

Pam and Alyssa were very helpful and flexible - and left us some goodies including fresh eggs of varied size and colour. The cottage is pretty and very well kitted out - very clean and comfortable. The location is really special - on the side of the glen, unbelievably quiet. Just pheasants, kites, buzzards, rabbits, sheep, deer and a stoat. We had sunny blue skies and went walking from the cottage every day. Hills, fields and forests everywhere you look. We both felt that 3 weeks there would have been good for us. Thanks again to Pam and Alyssa for being excellent hosts. I hope that we'll be able to return soon.

Stayed for 3 nights with my dog. Holmhead exceeded my expectations and I felt instantly at home. The location is superb and perfect for exploring the Cairngorms or even just stepping outside the front door and being in the forest. The cottage is extremely well equipped for its size and I found a few things, for guests use, that I wasn't quite expecting, (hot water bottles :) ). The brand new electric heating is very effective and the log burner is 'ferocious', but definitely a must when temperatures were below freezing. Cat is a very gracious, accommodating and genial host. I would definitely stay here again and recommend thoroughly.

What a beautiful place and a lovely comfortable cottage. We stayed a week at the Garden Cottage. A great place to make all kind of day trips in the area. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. The 2 bedrooms each had a bathroom, perfect. Carola and James were incredibly friendly and super hosts. Information on nearby points of interest available and also books & DVDs. Definitely a place to recommend and go back to for another visit.
