Exclusive Waterfront Private Villa - Manda Island

DinaRating, 5 stars28 months ago
Feisal's place was amazing. The house sits on its own plot on Manda Island, just a quick boat ride from Shela and Lamu Town. We had a family of 5 adults, 2 kids, a toddler and 2 infants. There was more than enough space with a balcony on each floor and 3 bedrooms. The sea breeze was incredible and the pool did not disappoint. There is a long dock to go to the boat and as the level of the tide varied each day we enjoyed swimming in the sea some days and beachtime on others. Amina the housekeeper and her daughters kept the place clean and helped us with anything we needed. We hired a chef, Yousef, who cooked amazing meals and even grocery shopped for us. This allowed us to truly relax and our kids loved their time on the island..it was a true adventure for them. We visited the Takwa Ruins, shopped in Shela and ate at several local restaurants. The weather was gorgeous and when it rained it only lasted minutes. The internet speed was great both inside and outside and allowed for streaming and movie afternoons when the kids were tired. We would love to return some day!

Najma’s penthouse

AlstairRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Najma is very responsive and went the extra mile to have Ayla receive me at the jetty. Her place looks exactly like the pictures. The lovely and friendly staff cleaned so meticulously daily and were always happy to help with any questions, recommendations, banter. The island has so much character, a rich history, easy access to other places like Manda and Shela and the friendliest locals. Lamu owes me a couple more places that I didn't get to see so I'll be back to Najma's penthouse. I felt right home!

Sunset Room in the Dunes

EdwardRating, 5 stars8 months ago
Stayed there for one week, Imaan was not there but we got great help from his assistant Philicent who was there for us at anytime. It is located roughly 10min outside of Shela in the dunes in a very quiet and welcoming neighborhood and it’s a privat house with very friendly people living below. Also they have their own wellspring with drinkable water, which isn’t always the case in Shela. We would definitely come again. Thx for hosting us!

Loved every bit of my stay. Mohamed was super responsive from the get-go. He gave us all the necessary contacts we needed to help with touring Lamu and was always a call away in case of anything. Cant wait to come back!

Tamarind House

MartynaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Visiting Shela and Lamu Town is a must have when exploring Kenya and having a stay in Abdillah place is making the experience only better. The town is amazing with its narrow paths and donkeys and cats walking all around. It's a great place to experience the native Swahili culture and architecture and also have some chillout time. Abdillah's place was so nice and looked even better than on pictures, all was clean and nice. Kitchen was well equipped and having additional bed on balcony/terrace was amazing to chill in the evening and soak in the town's atmosphere. When you arrive to the airport Abdillah will send his boat capitan for you to take you to his place (1500 ksh for all guests) and he picked us up at Shela's port. Abdillah was so nice to even walk us around the town. There were few restaurants around (actually everything is close by in Shela :)) and we recommend Sea Suq for some local food and Peponi for drinks. Also Shela has amazing beach. ❤️ Highly recommended!

Casa Blanca -Shela beachfront cottage -new listing

TamaraRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Claire‘s Airbnb exceeded all our expectations and was hands down one of the best experiences we've ever had! The host and on-ground staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. The place itself was even more beautiful than the pictures, and we felt so lucky to have stayed there for three nights. Some highlights that truly made our stay unforgettable were the huge private swimming pool in the backyard, daily cleaning and turn-down service at no extra cost, and having a professional chef who prepared the best Kenyan food we've ever tasted. The caretaker was an absolute gem, going above and beyond to assist us with everything we needed. What made it even better was how memorable and yet super affordable the experience was. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a remarkable and budget-friendly getaway. Thank you so much! 🙏🏽

DEULI HOUSE - whole house with gardens

EmmaRating, 5 stars32 months ago
Deuli house is a real gem. We went as a group of 14 adults and had a truly wonderful experience. From the moment of booking and then pick up at the airport Chui communicated proactively and was always really accommodating. Chengo the chef, Michael and the rest of the team at the house were an absolute dream. They helped us make provisions orders before arriving, learned our preferences and cooked exceptional daily meals and generally were fantastic. The icing on the cake was on the final night where they arranged a dinner party for a group of 26 at the house which was flawless. Thank you so much for the wonderful stay. I strongly recommend Chui’s place to anyone (big groups or families) and I look forward to coming back

Mtende House, Shela, Lamu Island

GeorgianaRating, 5 stars8 months ago
This is a fabulous house - Patrick is delightful and an excellent cook and with his assistant, Sophie they make a great team. There were 4 of us altogether, so we had plenty of space and each couple had a big bedroom and their own bathroom. We didn't use the spare bedroom or bathroom at all...the top floor living space with kitchenette for making coffee, cold drinks etc is excellent, breezy and lots to look at. It's very good value for money. It's close to the mosque so if the call to prayer is going to irritate you don't stay here - we went into it with eyes wide open and it was fine as any lost sleep during the night or early morning was made up for by sleeping in, or with a day time nap - and Lamu isn't exactly the kind of place where convention forces you to conform to normal time keeping. Thoroughly recommend!

Own cook. Rooftop. Close to beach.

NiamhRating, 5 stars22 months ago
Well I am struggling back in reality after the most incredible couple of weeks at Charlottes house in the magical village of Shela. We were cared for so beautifully by Eddie and in fact we all agreed that while we had amazing food in Lamu at all places we visited, the food Eddie cooked for us at home was the best. Clean, fresh, delicious. He is a wonderful wonderful man and an excellent chef. Thank you Charlotte and Eddie. I really hope to be back in the not too distant future. The location is amazing, a few mi notes walk from the sea and the very fun Peponi Hotel. We felt safe at all times . I miss it terribly

Beautiful beachfront ForodhaniHouse

DevonRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Spectacular. I don’t think any words can justify our incredible stay at Forodhani House but I’ll try. The house itself is jaw-dropping. Charming Swahili architectural elements with an open floor plan that maximizes the 180 degree sea view. The bedrooms are generous to say the least, with well designed en-suite bathrooms that rival 5-star hotels. Yes. You will be wowed by how it looks. But the best part of the house is how it feels. The way it’s designed, the cross breeze flows beautifully through the entire property. And still, somehow the house isn’t the best part of our stay. The best part is the house staff. Without too much fuss or fanfare, the staff preemptively cared for our every need. They remembered how we liked our tea and how we liked the lights to be at dinner. 5-star service from beginning to end. Then there was the food. every meal prepare by the in-house chef Cylus left us speechless. We didn’t eat dinner anywhere else. Core memory stuff.

Mwangati House - nature and quiet on Manda Island

MatteoRating, 5 stars62 months ago
We fell in love of the island, the beach, the people and the wonderful house of Veronique! The house is 10/15 minutes from the beach, lost in the Nature of the island. In the evening is just so relaxing to look at the starts from the terrace with the sofa. The room is spacious, clean and the garden is immense and well preserved. One of my favourite stay in airbnb of all time!
