I’ll show you its history and highlights at my favorite coffee shops, art galleries, landmarks, and vintage shops. • Meet at Heart for introductions and the neighborhood’s best coffee and then stroll to Nationale, an art gallery and bookshop that showcases emerging artists. • I’ll share the stories behind Burnside Street’s landmarks, including the Art Deco Laurelhurst Theater, and answer any Portland-related questions you may have as we wander up 28th Avenue. • Pop into Olo to chat with the designers of locally made perfumes, browse the vintage collection at Goodbye Horses, and discuss what you’ve seen over margaritas and snacks at Güero. I’ll leave you with my personalized tips for dinner and further explorations in the neighborhood and beyond, as well as my handmade zine full of insider tips on Portland.

Design botanical jewelry with Portland floral artist

Design and create botanical jewelry using foraged Pacific Northwest materials in my floral studio. In this 90-minute workshop, I’ll guide you in transforming natural elements into wearable art, drawing from my decades of experience as a master floral artist. • We’ll start in my studio behind my house, just two blocks from SE Division, with a tour of the garden and workspace. I’ll introduce the mechanics of wearable art and share samples of my botanical creations. • Choose materials from a curated selection of bark, seedpods, dehydrated mushrooms, herbs, succulents, and blossoms. We’ll dive into the design process, and I’ll coach you on structural techniques and creative elements as you work on a ring, necklace, bracelet, or earrings. • Finish by sharing our creations, and I’ll provide personalized feedback to celebrate your work. This botanical workshop is a wonderful opportunity to spark your creativity and take home a unique piece of art inspired by the Pacific Northwest.

Trek up an urban volcano with a sober travel specialist

Get your heart rate up with fellow nondrinkers and sober-curious folks on this 2.5-hour guided trek up Mount Tabor, Portland’s magnificent (extinct) volcano. Relax and enjoy a non-alcoholic drink at the summit, and connect with other sober adventurers with a love of the outdoors. • We’ll meet at a coffee house to grab a coffee or tea and introduce ourselves. • Next, the group will hike to the top of Mount Tabor. You’ll learn about its history as an extinct volcano and the group will share tips for sober travel. • At the summit, you’ll crack open some local Oregon non-alcoholic products such as Wilderton Aperitivo, Dhos gin-free or For Bitter or For Worse. • After a quiet moment to reflect, you’ll visit the volcanic crater and take in breathtaking views of the city below. • The hike back down will offer time to hang out with new friends and reflect on the day. You’ll leave with new community members, ideas to stay connected to your sobriety during your travels, and a copy of my award-winning zine, Sober Travel Handbook.

Forage for edible plants next to Latourell Falls

Latourell Falls, located in the Columbia Gorge, is a wonderful place to learn about the landscape and plants of the Pacific Northwest. Join a wilderness educator and forager as we visit this dramatic waterfall, sampling wild edible plants along the route. • We’ll meet at Guy W. Talbot State Park and then walk up the trail to Latourell Falls, which was formed by ancient volcanic activity. • As we move up the canyon, I’ll share stories about the history and ecology of the area and point out native edible plants. • We’ll explore both the base and the top of the falls, taking in the stunning views over the gorge. You’ll leave with a greater appreciation of the Pacific Northwest and a newfound knowledge of Oregon’s native plants. Note: Please make sure you are dressed appropriately for the weather and have sturdy shoes.

Create a Portland-inspired collage with a local artist

Create a unique collage using curated images of the Pacific Northwest while learning techniques I use in my own work. We’ll explore cutting methods, composition, and minimalist design, drawing inspiration from Portland’s iconography and your own experiences in the city. We will be meeting at the beautiful makerspace and shop Makerspace Sellwood in Portland, Oregon. • Begin by looking at my collages and discussing techniques, from selecting source material to layering and composition. Choose from a selection of maps, travel guides, local magazines, and vintage photos to craft a piece that reflects your time in Portland. • Chat about the places you’ve explored, using conversation to inspire image selection. I’ll offer guidance and feedback as you piece together your collage, encouraging a collaborative and engaging creative space. • All materials are provided, along with tea or kombucha to enjoy as we create. We’ll wrap up by sharing our finished work, reflecting on the creative process, and taking home a one-of-a-kind collage that captures your Portland experience.

Multnomah Zen, a four waterfall scenic hiking experience

Multnomah Falls and other waterfalls and vistas of the Columbia Gorge are astonishing icons of geology, the sort that have inspired mythology and lore of warriors, gods and passions. We will drive out in our vans to meet the tallest waterfall in the state, and then drive to a few of the shorter but even more stunning ones, too; falls which could only be the daughters and sons of legend. In this half-day experience, we will explore wonders with some short hikes (totaling less than 2.5 miles/4 km) and visits to overlooks and vistas that will have you gasping in awe. While Multnomah Falls and its iconic Benson Bridge are together the most-visited tourist attraction in the Portland area, they are only a part of our experience. We will meet at our shop in inner SE Portland, where we'll ride in our comfortable Sprinter and Transit vans to the nearby gorge. Depending on weather conditions, we will visit a few small hidden waterfalls and spectacular plunge-style falls whose columnar basalt has us learning words for "amazing" in other languages. We'll also tell you stories, geology, botany and oft-repeated tales of pioneers and road-builders, but also the old stories we've learned, of gods and wild spirits and about the oldest North American civilization, forever altered by “manifest destiny." Please note we book directly as well as through AirBNB, and your group may be up to 10.

Fragrance Design Workshop

We’ll introduce you to the process and materials that comprise fragrance creation. We'll spend about half the workshop smelling our way through a selection of about 50 raw ingredients, while discussing fragrance and blending techniques. You'll spend the remainder of the workshop developing and blending your own fragrance, with tips and pointers along the way. After this, you'll turn your fragrance into a 10mL oil-based roll-on personal fragrance. You’ll take home your very own scent creation compounded and mixed into a 10mL roll-on bottle of perfume. Other things to note: - Avoid wearing strong fragrances to this workshop as it may disrupt yours' and others' olfactory experience. - Please note we do require one reservation per person; due to the involved nature of this workshop we cannot accommodate extra guests without reservations - Occasionally we run a tad long, please let us know upon arrival if you have a hard out at 3pm! **We will be taking a short hiatus from workshops starting mid-April. We will return to fill your perfuming needs in June, check our calendar for future dates!

Learn to Bake Homemade Bread!

We'll start out at my house for espresso & homemade whole-grain toast that uses locally-grown and milled flour. Next we'll get to mixing and baking your own loaves. You will leave with a vigorous sourdough starter, plus a loaf of whole-grain, naturally-leavened bread. Not only that, but you'll have the knowledge to go home and start making your own bread regularly! While we wait for your bread to rise, we'll visit some of Portland's best bakeries. Other things to note Arrange transportation to and from my house, but I will provide complimentary transportation to the bakeries we will visit. Portland Photoshoot Walk

Ready for your Portland photoshoot? Let's do it. First we'll meet for coffee or tea (my treat!) at a local coffee shop. From there, we'll head out on foot to explore downtown Portland’s most photogenic locations in the Old Town/Chinatown districts Along the way, I'll snap some beautiful high quality portraits of you and share my favorite historical facts of Old Town, and the Portland landmarks we stop by. I'll be glad to help with any posing or photo ideas. I want these photos to show you in your best light and serve as a great souvenir from your time in Portland. Once we've finished our time together, I'll edit the best 25-30 photos, and send them over to you within 24 to 48 hours. Other things to note Want to capture a few looks? Tour: 8am-4pm We drive west. The city stops, nature begins. Across the valley floor for foggy forests. Thoughts begin of Bigfoot. "So green," you say. Sunbeams make the misty moss glow. The air, fresh and clean. "you'll want to move to Oregon" ~S Stories are told. Volcanoes and floods, natives and shipwrecks, explorers and pioneers. Legendary women, diverse ancestry, and an unknown world influence. "amazing tour guide, driver, and host" ~K A cedar shingle town. Wind spinners, saltwater taffy, brewpubs and seagulls. A secret path to the beach. "Haystack," points the guide. You walk closer. Pacific breakers roll in around rocks looming along shore. An old couple strolls, hands held. Kids dig a sandcastle, and kites fly. Dogs run with unleashed joy. "Keep an eye on the ocean," reminds the guide. A surfer rides a wave. Whales pass the lighthouse. Preserve foods with a cookbook author

During this interactive session I’ll teach you the basics of canning and preserving. You’ll learn how to water-bath and can delicious local produce in new and unique combinations. I’ll also teach you how to make brine, pack your jars properly, sterilize equipment, and ensure that your produce is properly sealed. Of course, we’ll take breaks to enjoy some local snacks and taste some hot sauces, made right here. You’ll get to take home your own jar of the canned creation to share with friends and family.
