Guest suite in Victoria
4.97 out of 5 average rating, 329 reviewsThe Suite Tiny Home
This unique designer built “small home” is all for your use. The Suite Tiny Home has its own entry gate built in Japanese style without metal fasteners apart from those fixing it to the ground. The paved entry leads to your side door, which is where the entry code lock is situated. You will enter and leave by the side door, but the two French doors are also for your use while enjoying your private patio. Please use the Ring doorbell to receive the entry code. The bathroom is Japanese influenced with a full body shower unit, elongated toilet with bidet, make-up mirror with stool, and vaulted ceiling. The bathroom is a wet room, so please feel free to use the sanitized slippers provided at the front door. The small-space kitchen is loaded with the utensils and appliance you will need to enjoy your stay. The induction hob is in the drawer under the counter on which it will be used. Other appliances can be plugged in for use and then put away for that no-clutter look. Please feel free to use the Apple TV and remote in conjunction with the television and its remote to access your web based media. Please take care with the remotes, and leave them on the credenza next to the television as you leave. You will be charged for loss or damage to the Apple TV, remotes, and other equipment and media. If you are not into web based media, please feel free to use the DVD player and classic DVDs provided for you use. We hope you will like the open staircase leading to the loft bedroom with its king sized bed and full-sized washer and dryer. Please feel free to use the laundry facilities; however, we will replace your used towels on a daily basis. Please leave towels you wish us to launder on the floor in the bathroom. The blinds on the windows in the living room and in the bedroom are operated manually. The blind above the stairs might be difficult for you to reach. Please let us know and we will operate it for you. Please make sure that the blinds on the entry door and on the French doors are fully raised before opening the doors. As the doors open outwards, wind could damage the blinds. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do to make your stay better or more comfortable and enjoyable. We would appreciate your giving feedback to us directly so that we can remedy anything while you are staying in The Suite Tiny Home. You have free use of The Suite, its private entry, and private patio. We would like to give you space to enjoy your vacation in The Suite. We are available if you have any questions or need any help during your stay. Please use email, text or phone. We would love to hear from you if there’s anything we can do to make your stay at The Suite more enjoyable. Within a few minutes’ walk, it's possible to visit beautiful parks, shop at the supermarket, and take in restaurants, cafes, and brew pubs. An inexpensive day pass to the Esquimalt Recreation Centre gives access to the pool, gym, and drop-in classes. There’s lots of free street parking near The Suite. Parking is very easy in Victoria with one hour free parking in most of the parkades, free street parking, and pay street parking. Also, there is additional free street parking on weekends and holidays. Taxis are easily available, and while in Victoria, you must try the harbour ferries. These are great for short hops around town, or you can take a tour of the gorge or around the inner harbour. Cycling is great with easy access to the Galloping Goose Trail and its connection with the Lockside Trail. You can cycle on these trails all the way to Sooke in one direction and right up to Sidney in the other direction. The bus service is easily accessible and is extremely convenient. You might want to try a flight on one of the float planes, or take a trip on one of the ferries to Seattle or Port Angeles in the USA. The Suite Tiny Home is ideally located less than five minutes walk from the supermarket and a variety of other stores, restaurants and cafés. If, like us, you enjoy walking, you will really like the West Bay Walkway which leads all the way to the inner Harbour in Victoria. The complete walk takes us about 45 minutes. However the bus service is very convenient with stops less than five minutes away from The Suite. Also, it’s great fun to walk into town and take the harbour ferry back to the West Bay Marina. From there it’s only a short walk back to The Suite.

Earthen home in Mayne Island
4.98 out of 5 average rating, 801 reviewsCob Cottage
Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Your guide to Victoria
Welcome to Victoria
Perched on the southern tip of beautiful Vancouver Island, Victoria is a classic Pacific Northwest maritime town brimming with charm and culture. Cruise ships, yachts, and sailboats glide through its ports; visitors roam the lively wharf; and offshore, it’s not uncommon to see whales putting on a show. Wander inland and you’ll find that British Columbia’s capital city is full of ornate Edwardian architecture, expansive public gardens, and ample bike paths. Among Victoria’s significant structures are its late-19th-century Parliament Buildings, whose grand facades glow with festive lights at night, and the genteel Empress Hotel, opened in 1908, where you can still take high tea. Victoria is also home to the oldest Chinatown in Canada, where you can find the country’s narrowest street, shopping corridor Fan Tan Alley. Add to this mix three colleges, world-class museums, picturesque rainforests, driftwood-dotted beaches, and stunning shoreline views, and Victoria is a perfect blend of urbane and outdoorsy.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Victoria
Summers are balmy and mild in Victoria, perfect for strolling the city and enjoying seasonal festivities such as Canada Day on July 1 and the Symphony Splash, celebrated in August, when the Victoria Symphony performs on a barge in the harbor. Victoria gets less rainfall than other parts of Canada, and hardly any snow. Thanks to the city’s mild weather, visitors flow through it year round, but in winter the temperatures do dip considerably, and even in summer a coat is recommended for cool nights.
Top things to do in Victoria
Beacon Hill Park
This sprawling waterfront green space is the heart of Victoria’s park system. Its lush environs include picturesque lily ponds and stands of majestic and rare Garry oak trees. You’ll also find an ornate totem pole carved by acclaimed artist and First Nations member Mungo Martin, and the Moss Lady, a large, whimsical sculpture of a giant taking a nap on the park floor.
Miniature World
Travel the globe in a few strides at this museum housing more than 85 teensy dioramas of places real and imagined. London, outer space, and Camelot are just a few of the locales painstakingly recreated in miniature and populated with residents no bigger than a thumbnail. These motorized exhibits include mini trains that zip around, and doll-sized carnival rides that spin and light up.
Craigdarroch Castle
Known colloquially as a bonanza castle, this staggering temple to wealth sits on a hill overlooking Victoria. Built by coal baron Robert Dunsmuir between 1887 and 1890, this imposing four-floor Victorian estate is replete with stained-glass windows, intricate wood carvings, and antique furnishings. Take a tour of its opulent rooms and ponder the cleaning routine.
