Experience the beauty of Korean pottery through a hands-on class where you can draw dancheong— an art of intricate patterns and vibrant colors often used in Korean architecture. You’ll create a small mug or a small jewelry box and explore the traditions of Korean ceramics, including • Learn to craft a small ceramic piece, step by step, from raw clay to the finished piece. Or you can also choose one of my studio-designed small ceramics. • Decorate a matching lid with one of your favorite dancheong patterns that is used in my art therapy program. • Sip Korean tea and enjoy the creative atmosphere of my studio. Once your small ceramic pieces are glazed and placed in the kiln, the process—from firing to cooling—can take three to seven days, depending on the schedule. The full cycle, including preparation and final unloading, typically takes two to three weeks. Note: You can arrange to pick up your finished art piece, or request overseas delivery for an additional shipping fee. Enjoy dining, drinking, and singing at local hangouts in the lively Yongsan neighborhood. In true hoesik fashion, we will visit three different locations. • Start with an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ feast featuring tender meats, fresh vegetables, and signature dipping sauces. Try somaek, a popular mix of beer and soju loved by locals and learn popular Korean drinking games. • Sip on makgeolli, traditional Korean rice wine, at the next stop, paired with Korean-style pancakes, or jeon, a classic anju (drinking food). (Note: This may be substituted for chicken and beer or other local restaurant depending on circumstance • End the night at a noraebang (karaoke bar), singing your favorite English or K-pop songs in a private room. Peek behind the scenes of a 40-year-old sesame oil mill, where you’ll get the chance to roast seeds yourself before enjoying the fragrant oils with Korean cuisine. • After touring the mill and sipping tea, we’ll dive into the manufacturing process of sesame or perilla oils. You’ll even get a chance to wash and roast sesame (or perilla) seeds on your own. • In your first tasting, you’ll sample types of seeds paired with Korean ingredients. • As we shift to demonstrating the milking process, you’ll also get a chance to practice this step yourself. • We’ll then taste both sesame and perilla oils, including pairing them with more delicious food. We’ll end with another hands-on demo: Learning how to transfer the oil into glass bottles without spilling a drop. You’ll even get to take home a souvenir.

Brewing K-Traditional Rice Wine with a Master at the Hanok

Learn how to make traditional makgeolli, the cloudy, sparkling Korean rice wine, in a hanok (traditional Korean house). We’ll taste the early results of the process as well as finished seasonal makgeolli. Along the way, I’ll share the wisdom of my ancestors’ fermentation traditions. • I’ll welcome you into the hanok, share the story of fermented liquor in Korea, and introduce the fundamentals of makgeolli and the fermentation process. • Make godubap (steamed rice), the foundation of our beverage, and add the nuruk—the yeasty grain cake that jump-starts the process—and water. • I’ll demonstrate how to filter the alcohol and we’ll taste the undiluted results, called wonju. We’ll also sample seasonal varieites of makgeolli, and I’ll answer any questions you may have. You’ll leave with insights into Korea’s healthy fermented food culture, and the skills to easily apply the techniques you’ve learned at home.

You are going to make “The scent” for an hour and a half based on your own memories and images want to express. In my atelier, there are 400 ingredients will be ready for you. After having full conversation with our parfumeur, you may choose eight of the ingredients that match the scent that you want to express the most. You can try various proportions out of the total 40g capacity with your chosen eight ingredients, take your complete pleasure on your way back.
