Sweet Retreat by Mt. Hope Bay!

NathanRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This apartment is a gem! Tom and Cindi have thought of all the details: plenty of extra pillows and blankets, nightlights readily available for us to plug in or not as/where needed, good blackout curtains in the bedroom, granola bars and some kitchen basics like butter and cream, an electric kettle as well as a coffee maker, and a wide variety of extra toiletries in case guests have forgotten anything. Tom greeted us in person when we arrived and made us feel welcome and at home. The neighborhood is quiet and felt very safe. While it’s not walkable to downtown, it’s a fun neighborhood to walk around, near the bay. We’d stay here again if we visit this area again!

Cozy Cottage Near Newport. Fireplace & Water Views

JanieRating, 5 stars6 days ago
This airbnb was nothing short of amazing. The location was steps from the beach, the neighborhood was quiet, and the house was nicely decorated and impeccably clean. Allison was an amazing host - checking in to make sure I was situated and answered any questions promptly. The house was exactly as described. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance and all the locals I met were so kind. I look forward to making a return trip to Portsmouth and staying here again!

Waterfront Secluded Home with Dock

EmmaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
A truly remarkable location and house! Absolutely gorgeous views of the water and beautifully landscaped. We had our 3 year old and 4 month old daughters with us. Our three year old did great in the trundle day bed and said she was very cozy. We loved trying out the kayaks and playing chess and board games by the fireplace. We easily fit in mystic aquarium, Newport mansions, and a day trip to block island being close to everything with this beautiful Airbnb.

Cozy Lighthouse View & Bike Path only 10min to Pvd

KatieRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Such a great house in a gorgeous location. I visited with my partner and 4 family members for a cousin's wedding nearby and it was the perfect place for us to gather, enjoy each other's company, and get ready for the event. Thomas was a wonderful host, and we had more than everything we could have needed. The lighthouse view from the sun room and backyard were a huge bonus -- we loved sitting out there and watching nature together. Don't miss the sunset views! Gorgeous gardens and fully stocked kitchen were a bonus. It was great to have lots of space to get ready, and the bedrooms are super comfortable (excellent mattresses!). Even though the house is right in the middle of everything, it's tucked away down a quiet street and feels very private. The wedding venue (Squantum Association) was just two minutes down the road so it couldn't have been more convenient. Highly recommend a stay at this lovely place.

The Landing

GeorgiaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
It's a lovely house in a fantastic location right on the water with a private beach and beautiful views of Point Judith, both day and night. We enjoyed watching the ferries and fishing boats going out to sea. I couldn't go away without my 2 baby dogs so it was a super plus for me that John allows pets. We enjoyed walking all around the area, as well as the many beaches nearby. I'm sure it's much busier in the summer months, but I enjoy the tranquility of the offseason. I'd definitely enjoy renting this home again.

3 BR -no guest fee-cozy beach house- near newport.

KimberlyRating, 5 stars1 week ago
House is so beautiful and cozy. Felt right at home. My son was graduating from OCS. In the thirteenth week of training, we were able to bring him to this beautiful home and have a home cooked meal every night. Every amenity you could dream of is supplied. Even beaters…which allowed me make delicious whipped potatoes. We sat outside in the sweet quaint backyard and looked at the full moon and watched the wild bunnies hop around. We walked down to the absolutely gorgeous idyllic bay just 60 seconds from the house.

This was the perfect house for my family. We thoroughly enjoyed the back porch and beautiful views of the park. It was great to walk out the back yard and hike around the lake. House was super clean, had a nice living room space and lots of games for our family to play. Hoping to come back when there is snow on the ground and to enjoy the house and park again!

A nice landing spot, it was close drive to the Cliffs and the highway. If you arrive when it’s dark, it may appear quaint from the outside, go inside and your feeling will change. It was the perfect size for a couple and our pets, but I’m sure we will be back with the kids at some point!

Large estate with pond near beaches

LisaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Our family was seriously in need of a time out from the hustle/bustle of the daily grind. In total were 6 adults & 2 children for a 4-day trip. Our sister-in law come to visit for a day. The property is magical - it is absolutely beautiful!!! The rolling grounds are manicured and lead down to a pond area. You are surrounded by nature, but not too far from shopping or activities. We choose to stay on property and enjoy. Spent most of the time on the pond with the canoes, kayaks and firepit area. There is a wide array of outdoor items supplied for guests which was amazing. The house was amazing. Clean/pristine with everything you would need to cook/entertain for all meals. There is a space for everyone to have their own space and well as multiple common areas. Character of the house is truly amazing. We had so much fun playing cards, watching home videos, and storytelling. Just what we as a family needed. Thank you, Lynne/Robin for being great hosts. Will be back!

It was such a perfect home for a girls trip! The home is beautiful and well stocked for hosting (platters, wine glasses, etc) and the location is perfect. 5 minutes to a grocery store, 10 minutes to the Newport seaport, and just 8 minutes to the Cliff Walk (which is a must!). Would absolutely stay here again!

Your guide to Rhode Island

Welcome to Rhode Island

Rhode Island is the tiniest state in the United States, but you can hardly tell, because there’s so much to see and do in this place it feels anything but small. Start with 400 miles of classic New England coastline defined by beautiful windswept beaches dotted with lighthouses and clam shacks. Fresh seafood hauled from the chilly Atlantic is transformed into local favorites such as stuffies, fried globes of breadcrumb and clams served on the half shell. Rhode Island’s capital city, Providence, is an unpretentious cultural hub, home to lively dive bars, buzzy restaurants, and one of the country’s premier art colleges, the Rhode Island School of Design. Drive 45 minutes south to tony Newport and you’ll be in the land of Gilded Age mansions and yachts. Whether you decide to undertake a driving tour of colonial towns, go museum and gallery hopping, or simply pad around a sunny coastal village in shorts and sandals, diminutive Rhode Island has lots to offer.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Rhode Island

Rhode Island experiences four true seasons. Hot, sunny summers are ideal to book a beach holiday in one of the state’s many vacation rentals, while crisp fall months bring colorful foliage and classic seasonal activities such as apple picking. In winter, the landscape is transformed into a snowy wonderland, and towns twinkle with holiday lights. In spring, the warm days signal the start of outdoor festival season, and Rhode Island bustles with celebrations of jazz, chowder, and even daffodils.

Top things to do in Rhode Island

Block Island

For a true glimpse of New England living and scenery, hop aboard the ferry to Block Island, located off Rhode Island’s southern shore in Narragansett Bay. This pretty circle of green ringed with gorgeous shoreline is home to sandy coastal paths, historic brick lighthouses, and miles of old stone walls stretched across verdant farmland.

WaterFire

A trail of more than 80 bonfires is set ablaze atop the surface of the three rivers that flow through Providence, filling the canals with a warm glow and the air with the smell of wood smoke, as onlookers and musicians line the banks. Created by sculptor Barnaby Evans, the work has existed in some form since 1994, and comes alive during the summer months, and additional select days throughout the year. Check the WaterFire website for dates.

Mansion Hopping

A trip to Newport isn’t complete without ogling the opulent Gilded Age mansions here. The Preservation Society of Newport County offers tours of ten of these over-the-top temples to wealth, including The Breakers, a 70-room Italian Renaissance-style palazzo built by the Vanderbilt family. The interior looks a bit like a wedding cake dipped in gold and velvet.
