Sala Sol ~ high desert oasis at Casa Chicoma

J.C.Rating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had a great stay at Casa Chicoma. Easy check-in / check-out process. The kitchen was well-stocked with dish ware and appliances. The living room filled with books and AppleTV. Our toddler loved the swing chair and slept comfortably on the couch/daybed. The dogs were super friendly. It was a beautiful property and we had a chance to explore the trails, the swimming hole, and dome with fig trees on our last day. The location was secluded enough in the desert where we could hear coyotes howling at night and see stars in the night sky, but still a close enough drive (~10 mins) to downtown Santa Fe.

The Bunk House

AbbyRating, 5 stars6 days ago
The Bunkhouse is clean, cozy, and the surroundings are so peaceful. We did the tourist-y thing in Roswell but it was so nice to stay somewhere a little away from town with gorgeous views. The decorations in the Bunkhouse were obviously carefully chosen and so perfect. Little snacks and welcome gift were the best. Jane was there to welcome us, give us some extra cookies, and restaurant recommendations which was great. Furniture was comfortable and shower pressure was great! 5 out of 5 would recommend.

Private & Comfortable, Modern Taos Earthship

A very unique experience living in a passive solar home. Interior decorations are like living in an art museum. Solitude is perfect. Local art and mountain trails are beyond any place you have visited. Especially during fall colors.

The Cozy Corrales Cottage

MorganRating, 5 stars5 days ago
There are not enough superlatives to describe Katrina or her casita in Corrales. Our expectations were exceeded in every way. It was clean, comfortable and stylish, and felt like home as soon as we walked in. Katrina was amazing; thoughtful, kind, friendly and responsive. She was happy to provide advice and recommendations and there is no other place we would choose to stay in and around ABQ. We were surprised and delighted at every turn and I would give seven stars (out of five) if I could. Thank you Katrina for making our stay absolutely perfect!

Casita on Rio Grande Riverside Park

DanRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
The area and location is great. Very quiet and peaceful next to the bosque. Trail access to bosque was nice for walking and biking, right along the side of the main house. Joseph and Laurel were friendly and responsive to my questions. They were super responsive to an issue with the swamp cooler, getting a service technician there within an hour. The issue was resolved quickly. The casita has everything you need to be comfortable with large bathroom and walk-in shower. The kitchen had the necessary items to make meals at the casita. What a great location along the bosque to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Explore Nature Trails Near a Secluded Boho Adobe

CraigRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We are repeat guests, and hope to visit Taos and stay at Justin’s casita again in the future. We like that the place is peaceful and the space inspires our creativity. This casita is close to town, but feels like it is out in the country, the way it is surrounded by large cottonwoods.

Stylish cottage in a beautiful canyon on the river

ValRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Kris and Cedric’s place exceeded our expectations. The location is easy to find, the home is clean, tidy and beautifully decorated. They were quick to respond to my questions and were very cordial in their correspondences. They provided an instruction guide of local activities which was very much appreciated. Kris and Cedric even provided fresh cut flowers for us which is so thoughtful! We will definitely be coming back!

Aug’s Cabin - Cozy 2 Story w/ Country Charm

SeanRating, 5 stars5 days ago
Aug’s cabin was lovely. When we got to the cabin it was in great condition and easy to find. The power in the area was out when we called the host who called the power company to keep us in the loop of when it would come back on. Communicating was easy clear and effective. The cabin was cozy with perfect amenities and plenty of space and privacy.

Casa Tocaya: Adobe Gem in O'Keeffe country!

AndrewRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
As we've spent over 3 weeks at this property in the past 12 months it's easy to assume we like it! The location is the main event, but we also like the house itself. As a back-handed compliment, we like that the Casa is, you might say, rustica. Nothing feels as though a handprint or a forgotten coaster is going to spark a rebuke, and the hand-laid tile floor is perfect for a dog. In 'shoulder season' the house keeps cool even when it is hot outside, and the window seat is a wonderful place to watch the clouds roll by.

The Blue House - Walk to Hot Springs

LisaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
The blue house is a lovely and cozy space. It was clean and tidy and I loved finding little treats and notes in different places around the house. All interactions with the owners and local contact were very friendly. I had no issues but always felt like I could reach out to you if I needed anything. I would definitely stay here again.

Sunrise Casita

ChrisRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We loved our stay here. This place was also a great deal for the money. It was very clean and in a safe neighborhood. A few suggestions that would make future stays even more spectacular: 1. The bathroom could definitely use an exhaust fan. 2. The window facing the bed could use some light blocking curtains. The white shades let in a ton of light. 3. Extra towels would also be nice. Other than that, this is an amazing place to stay.

A nature sanctuary on 6 acres of sheer bliss!

JenniferRating, 5 stars3 days ago
This place is a retreat like nothing we've experienced in Northern NM. The property is stunning, from the landscape, to the layout of the walking path, to the view of the mountains. Every corner we turned we were inspired by the beauty. This is the perfect spot for a painter looking for views from every angle. Vivien was very responsive to our requests, which were very few since she thought of everything. The house is charming, spacious, smells like New Mexico, the most comfortable bed I didn't want to get out of, gorgeous viga/herringbone ceilings we stared at for hours, the kitchen isn't built to cook big meals, but we were able to make due with the multiple portable appliances provided. This is quintessential Taos-area life.

Extraordinary, Stellar Home on Abiquiu Lake

JessicaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Having stayed at Gordon's place twice before, I returned for the astounding healing and peace I find there. There is something new to discover each time. This stay was no exception. With regular rains this stay, the landscape bloomed in ways I have not seen before. The variety of wildlife and tracks spotted on hikes was wonderfully exciting. Returning to Gordon's home after each hike is always like coming home. The comfort of the couch, lounge chairs, and beds are so welcome after a warm meal and soak in the hot tub under the Milky Way. I will continue to return to Gordon's place for as long as he continues to offer it. I always feel as though I'm leaving a piece of myself behind when I leave. Perhaps this is why it's so pleasing to return. Thank you.

MichelleRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Just about perfect for a weekend in the area! Close to town yet private; gorgeous views of the mountains. Casita was comfortable in every way and well equipped. We had the opportunity to meet the owners who have a separate home next door but there was clear communication and instructions written down as well. Highly recommend!

Debi truly cares about your stay. She checks in often to make sure everything is going well. We highly recommend staying here!

Your guide to New Mexico

All About New Mexico

New Mexico, known as the Land of Enchantment, possesses a powerful draw for artists and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The western state is home to awe-inspiring desert landscapes, adobe-walled ruins, snow-peaked mountains, big-city amenities in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and small artist communities like Taos. In the south, you’ll be inspired by dazzling skies, snow-like sand drifts, and the Rio Grande’s blue waters. Wild caves, deep gorges, mineral springs, and soaring mountains offer hiking, skiing, horseback riding, and the opportunity to soak in healing mineral springs. Turn down one of Albuquerque’s cobblestone alleyways and discover hidden patios, the smell of roasting chilis, and isolated churches.

Santa Fe has adobe monuments, world-class museums, Native American galleries, and gourmet restaurants. Artist towns like Taos and the curiously named Truth or Consequences continue New Mexico’s creative heritage, from turquoise jewelry-making to folk art. Events like the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow introduce visitors to ancient rituals and ceremonial dances among ancestral ruins and settlements — a reminder of the state’s many Indigenous people, such as the Navajo and Pueblo. Diverse communities offer a unique blend of cuisines, cultures, and languages throughout the state.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in New Mexico

New Mexico's weather is as varied as its landscape, with the largest temperature range of any state in the country. This is mainly due to elevation change between the north's high mountain ranges and the south's low-lying basins and desert plains. Spring is a great time of year to experience the national parks without the usual crowds when the weather is mild, and cabins in New Mexico are more abundant. New Mexico sees low rainfall and mild humidity throughout the year, and summers can get extremely warm. With skiers and snowboarders descending upon the mountains in the north during the winter months, New Mexico cabin vacation rentals tend to be more expensive this time of year. Visit between September and December, and you'll be treated to pleasant weather and the annual Albuquerque Balloon Festival.

Top things to do in New Mexico

Petroglyph National Monument

Approximately 20,000 petroglyphs can be found throughout the 7,244-acre park. The images were carved into the basalt escarpment by Indigenous peoples and Spanish settlers hundreds of years ago. Three main hiking trails can be found in the park, the easiest being Boca Negra Canyon, with over 100 petroglyphs viewable from the trail. The monument is managed jointly by the City of Albuquerque and the National Park Service to preserve the culturally significant site.

Bike Albuquerque

Spanning 200 square miles, Albuquerque is a paradise for cyclists. Dozens of lanes crisscross the city, connecting laidback neighborhoods with downtown along stretches of former Route 66. Travel along the Paseo del Bosque River Trail, or cycle to the filming locations of a famous Albuquerque-based TV show and the plethora of local breweries and wineries.

White Sands National Monument

Miles from the ocean and nearest river, White Sands National Monument is a desert playground. Gleaming white gypsum sand is formed into extraordinary sand dunes up to 60 feet tall. Set up a picnic amongst the haunting, snow-like sandscape or glide down the white dunes — the park store even rents out round saucers for doing just that. Explore the vast landscape with a drive around the 16-mile Dunes Drive, taking time to stop along the way to explore the hiking trails, picnic areas, and exhibits.
