Escape To The Hollows on Lake Travis/ Golf cart

RandyRating, 5 stars1 week ago
My families stay here was fantastic. There was plenty of room, the kitchen amenities (we cooked!) were great, the place was spotless, all was in order, and everyone was comfortable. A small problem with the keyless entry system upon arrival was taken care of quickly by John, who was super responsive both then and the other routine times we communicated. On the final day we finally had time to go to the community pool which was great as well (even though the water was cold by this time of the year!). Thumbs up all around.

Lovely Condo-Rooftop pool, steps from Rainey St

EddieRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
High end stay with a beautiful view of downtown Austin. Me and my wife loved the place the building and the location being so close to the city and things to do. 5/5 the only downside is the parking but it wasn’t that bad since we always found spots to park but you will pay at least $10-$20 if parked outside or $40 per night inside. Great stay will definitely stay here again next time.

Waterfront Condo on Lady Bird Lake

PattiRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We loved this property. It was just as pictured. the AC was great, the bed was comfortable and the complex was super quiet. Kitchen and bat were well stocked. Very nice to have gated parking even though the area seems safe. The view was unbeatable. We loved watching the family of ducks and the rowing crews going by on the lake. Easy walk to town. Would definitely stay here again. Don't miss Bat City Pies at The Buzz Mill!

Cypress Creek Retreat Hamilton Pool

AmyRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We really enjoyed our stay at John & Patti’s cabin and they are wonderful hosts. The views are incredible. Loved watching the sun rise each morning, setting in the evening and the moon was so bright. My husband caught several bass in the creek below the cabin. Hamilton Pool, Westcave Preserve and Reimers Ranch just a few miles away and should be on your to do list. Cabin had everything we needed and a perfect place to get out in nature and just relax.

This place was a stunner! We booked it for our anniversary weekend and were blown away. The Yurt is so cozy, pristine and you can tell everything was designed with great intention. It’s very private, so close to downtown Wimberly and the Alpacas + Ducks + Chickens were the cherry on top! Would love to stay here again!

Luxury Home - Stunning Views, Pool, Hot Tub

JuliaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
I highly recommend this home. Words are inadequate to describe the panoramic view enjoyed from inside and out. The entire valley is at your feet, replete with a river running through it. I sat on the lovely patio with my morning coffee and pondered the millennia the stream has followed that route to etch a sculptural path into the limestone. We sat by the fire pit at night and were serenaded by coyotes in the distance. No city noises. The location provides a quiet setting that accentuates the privacy of the home. I can't recall more peaceful mornings. After dinner, we would relax in the hot tub and watch the incredible sunsets over the mountains. The beds are fabulous. The linens are top quality, and the mattresses are sublime. The interior finishings are intuitive and gorgeous. Appliances are top-of-the-line, and the kitchen is well-stocked for any culinary adventure. Arielle is a responsive and gracious host. She also provided a thoughtfully curated welcome book.

would absolutely come back for another getaway. i was very impressed with the indoor and outdoor space. what a neat property, even a hammock and treehouse/porch! perfect for relaxing and a reset. ample space to lounge around and enjoy the pool and hot tub area. the hosts were friendly and helpful, the kind of people that are warm and inviting. I've already recommended it to friends and loved the wildlife and private entry, yes your in their backyard but it's very respectful.

LakeTravis Waterfront Volleyball Game Rooms Boats

JeremyRating, 5 stars4 days ago
We had an amazing weekend celebrating my fiancé’s 30th birthday with close friends. As Austin locals, this was the perfect staycation spot! The property offered plenty of space and activities for our group, and we always had a comfortable place to sit and hang out. The volleyball court, complete with lights for night games, was a big hit. Everything was super clean, and the kitchen was well-stocked with cooking supplies. The grill was ready to go with a full propane tank, making it easy for us to cook up a great meal. We’ll definitely be back!

The Lake Chalet on Lake Travis

TomRating, 5 stars1 week ago
My son and I had a really enjoyable stay at Heather’s Lake Chalet. The house was a quiet oasis after a couple of long days at the Circuit of the Americas and sightseeing around Austin. The house was immaculate and it had everything we needed for our stay. Having coffee on hand was a nice touch because it meant we didn’t need to run out first thing in the morning. The Sundancer Grill next door was very convenient for a very filling breakfast one of the mornings we were in town. We will definitely stay again if we make it back to Austin!

We love our stay! We were in town for the Formula 1 race at CoTA and this location was great with minimal traffic in between. We did accidentally lock ourselves out with the child lock (user error) but Nelma was so helpful and responded quickly and helped us get back inside. We would love to stay again.

The Lake Shack on Lake Travis

MartinRating, 5 stars3 months ago
We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Janelle's place! The location by the lake is unbeatable, offering stunning views and a serene atmosphere. The outdoor area is perfect for entertaining, with plenty of seating and a beautiful setup for evening gatherings. The highlight of our stay was definitely the lake dock and the lily pad. We spent hours out on the dock, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and the opportunity to swim and relax on the lily pad. It was the perfect spot for both fun and relaxation. Janelle was a wonderful host, providing us with everything we needed and ensuring our stay was comfortable. We can't recommend this place enough and look forward to coming back in the future!

Your guide to Lake Travis

Welcome to Lake Travis

One of the Lone Star State’s most popular lake destinations, Lake Travis sprawls 20 miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country. Expect waterfront restaurants, renowned golf courses, and aquatic adventures on the 64-mile-long reservoir, which has 270 miles of shoreline. Ranches and open green space girdle it, along with four lively communities serving commuters to the state capitol. But visitors mostly gravitate toward the lake’s beauty and bustling social scene.

Cyclists, however, gear up for the undulating granite and limestone hills, part of a fractured plateau, blanketed by parklike open oak forests. World-class road-racers celebrate this terrain as among the world’s best places to ride. The Mansfield Dam Loop remains an especially popular road route: adrenalin seekers can hit speeds of 60 mph on the infamous Tumbleweed Hill. (Don’t worry, there’s a bypass for less gonzo cyclists!) Pump up your tires — and legs — early on weekend mornings to avoid heavy car traffic.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Lake Travis

The climate stays relatively moderate year-round, and Lake Travis never closes, except during extreme weather events. It boasts around 300 days of sunshine annually, and summer highs can creep into the mid-90s Fahrenheit. But don’t sweat the thermometer — Lake Travis averages 78 degrees throughout the year. And it also has 118.2 square miles of water to cool off in. That said, the humidity can get intense from June to August; the most popular months to book vacation rentals here are September to October and March to May.

June does bring the new Lake Travis Film Festival, however, with screenings in Lakeway and Bee Canyon. The area also makes a big splash with its Fourth of July fireworks. And visitors base themselves here for March’s SXSW, August’s Pride celebrations, and October’s City Limits Music Festival, all in Austin.

Top things to do in Lake Travis

Austin Moonlight Towers

A 19th-century criminal spurred the city to keep its residents safe by flooding its streets with light from 165-foot-tall towers. Today 13 of the 31 delicate original structures remain and are protected on the National Register of Historic Places. Visiting over the winter holidays? Don’t miss the Zilker Park tower’s transformation into one of the world’s largest Christmas trees.

Elisabet Ney Museum

Seventeen miles southeast of Lake Travis stands this tribute to a 19th-century German portrait sculptor. Elisabet Ney moved to Austin in 1882 and spent the rest of her life working in this museum, one of the state’s oldest. The limestone building itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has some neoclassical elements, along with landscaping and wildflowers attractive to pollinators.

Windy Point Park

Shade trees and lush lawns make this lakeside oasis a favorite among picnickers. Surprisingly, it also ranks among Central Texas’s top scuba spots. Divers can explore boat wrecks and submerged sculptures ― and those with advanced certification can descend into a dramatic underwater canyon.
