Perfect location Taos Ski Valley!

LynseyRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The home is warm and inviting and very clean. The kitchen is very well stocked with pots and pans, and dishes. The area is beautiful, and the home backs up to a river, so lovely in the morning while enjoying your coffee. The owners are incredibly friendly and responsive, she was always available when I texted about anything. They also provided awesome recommendations for hiking and restaurants. I honestly cannot recommend this place enough. I hope one day I can return and enjoy it again!

East Highway 64 Hidden Haven/hot tub

MadisonRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Came here for mine and my husbands anniversary and we absolutely loved this place. It was quiet and secluded and the area is beautiful. The house was clean and well maintained as was the hot tub. The driveway up to the house was very steep and is unpaved. I have a Hyundai Tucson and was able to get up with minimal issues. Chris was very helpful and responsive our entire stay, and their dog who does roam the property is super sweet. Taos was also a beautiful 30ish minute drive from the house. Overall this place is great and if given the chance we will definitely come back here!

"Stella Blue": Lushness on a Unique Property

CourtneyRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We had a wonderful stay at Stella Blue. It was a great location to explore Taos and the surrounding area. Ellen was an amazing host with great communication and awesome recommendations for the area. You can tell she enjoys sharing her place with guests. We had an easy check in and check out process. The suite was clean and beautifully decorated . It had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Her property is peaceful with amazing views from the sunset deck. We give it 5 stars and would definitely stay again if we are ever back in the area.

A quaint and cozy Bavarian style mountain abode

LisaRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Exactly what we were looking for. The accommodations were super quiet, comfortable and tastefully decorated. In particular, the bed was very comfortable. We prefer to eat home cooked meals so we were delighted to find all the kitchen items we needed in order to prepare our own meals. Our favorite activity was sitting on the back porch & taking in the scenery , especially the wildlife and babbling stream that runs behind the house. The overall setting was a nature lover's dream. We loved the weather and walked down to the ski village to take advantage of the local entertainment. Since we visited during the off season many places in the ski village were closed but enough stores/restaurants were open to satisfy our needs. Our host Deborah was fantastic. She responded quickly to our questions and provided additional helpful information. I would definitely stay hear again.

Great location! Bring a fan if you’re staying in the summer - but it’s clear on the site there is no a/c so we were okay with that. Walking distance to dinner, coffee, drinks, shops, hiking. We had a great weekend and would stay again!

Your guide to Taos Ski Valley

Welcome to Taos Ski Valley

Originally a copper mining village called Twining, this mountain town is all about one thing now: skiing. High in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, in the shadow of Wheeler Peak — New Mexico’s highest point at 13,161 feet — this high-elevation town has been a ski resort since the 1950s. Back then, a family bought the land that would become Taos Ski Valley (yes, the village and resort share a name) and developed a ski area with a homegrown vibe, attracting relatively low crowds to its world-class slopes, known for adventure skiing.

A billionaire conservationist purchased the resort in 2013 and has been sprucing up the slopes and amenities. New lifts, restaurants, and ski areas sprung up, all run as a B corporation — a business required to meet certain environmental and social standards. To that end, the resort is deploying electric vehicles and energy-efficient snowmaking in an effort to lower its carbon footprint, among other initiatives. Just 30 minutes from the artsy outpost of Taos, Taos Ski Valley is an idyllic base from which to explore the snowy mountains and desert plains of New Mexico.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Taos Ski Valley

Winter — extending into early spring — is high season here. As the inches of snow rise, so does the visitor count. (Although you still find fewer crowds here than at buzzier ski locales.) And despite the low temperatures — especially in chilly January — you’re likely to encounter sun, as it shines about 290 days a year here. Late spring and fall are sedate shoulder seasons, and in summer, when temperatures are balmy and warm, Taos Ski Valley is a low-key base for exploring the Carson National Forest and other natural wonders. The resort offers scenic lift rides, and its peakside restaurant is a choice place for an outdoor beverage with mountain views.

Top things to do in Taos Ski Valley

Taos Ski Resort

Previously known for rugged adventure skiing, the revamped Taos Ski Resort now offers something for everyone. Daredevils can still navigate Kachina Peak, with an elevation of more than 12,000 feet, but there’s also a ski school for beginners and a kids’ area, served by a gondolita, made for pint-sized bodies.

Taos

A trip to Taos Ski Valley wouldn’t be complete without a visit to its big sister at the base of the mountain range. This laid-back, artsy outpost replete with adobe architecture is renowned for its world-class museums and gallery hopping, as well as its spas and hot springs.

Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway

This three-hour, 84-mile drive loops around Wheeler Peak and connects Taos Ski Valley to neighboring mountain towns like rugged Questa, home to a four-day plein-air painting festival every July. On your journey you’ll also pass mesas, forests, and lush river valleys. Combine it with a side trip to Taos, which is also on the way.
