Luxury Cliffside Escape - Casa Cocobolo Villa

ChittanaRating, 5 stars3 months ago
If you’re undecided about where to stay in Costa Rica, look no further! The house is spectacular and the team is amazing! They were so much like visiting family. Before our arrival Hannah organized transportation, tours, private chef and recommended restaurants in the area. All of our inquiries were always quickly! addressed. Especially with the Monopoly which Thoren went to town to purchase and his wife Silvia fresh baked bread was truly special. We’ve learned so much on the property tour with Thoren and his daughter Savannah. The property had plenty fruits/herbs, helipad, diving hole, lake, access to the beach and so much more. The housekeeper was also the sweetest and very helpful. The house has everything you need, no need to pack anything extra. The entire team made our trip such a memorable experience. We miss them already!! Pura Vida 😍

Stunning Casa Mar y Selva

ScottRating, 5 stars2 months ago
This property has the wow factor! The architecture, the jungle setting, the world class ocean view all come together wonderfully. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area, and we loved sitting out and seeing what kind of bird or animal would drop in next. The house has a large master suite. There are two additional bedrooms connected with a jack-and-jill bathroom and there is an additional half-bath. We were quite excited about the trail to the river that is mentioned in the property description; however, when we arrived and tried to find it, we were told it is really just for the dry season. Still, we had a great stay and highly recommend. The hostess, Nicole, was a pleasure to work with.

Vista Élite Casita 03

HannahRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This was one of the greatest Air B&B homes we have visited. We were blown away by the phenomenal view of the volcano. It was so private and secluded like our own little piece of paradise for a day. We really appreciated German's responsiveness and their guide on directions. I will say a small part of the road there is quite rough (though this is a rural area of Costa Rica). It would be hard to get there by a small car. We absolutely loved our stay here and will recommend it to all! Everything was pristine and so many nice accommodations. It felt like a luxury stay in a 5 star hotel but with the best view. Thank you so much!

Casa Mariposa your lush romantic private paradise!

MihaelaRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Amazing house with lots of amenities and awesome views of the ocean and the rainforest. We had a perfect one week stay here. The house is fully equipped for cooking (if you choose to stay at come and relax by the pool) and perfect for relaxation. We also did some short nice walks around the property in the lush forest and the most magical moment of the day was right after the sunset when the fireflies were invading the yard. Would definitely recommend this house!

Costa Rica jungle home: remodeled/waterfall path!

MikeyRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had an absolutely amazing time at this property for my dad's 70th birthday. It was private and secluded but just a short drive to Marina Pez Vela and activities such as zip lining and horseback riding. We saw toucans and monkeys in the backyard. Susan and the housekeeper Geraldina were so great to deal with. This is a really special property and I totally can recommend it. 5 stars.

Beachfront house in Playa Ballena

LisaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This place is just magical. Fully open with just bed nets, the resident bat and geckos kept the bugs away. I feels so special to stay in such a precious place. Comfy beds, just as described. Steep hill at the entrance needs a 4x4. But it’s worth it. We will be back one day, hopefully….

Quinta La Ceiba Modern Home with Pool in DairyFarm

TalRating, 5 stars1 month ago
The place is lovely, quiet and beautiful. The pool is great, the bedrooms are big and comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. Jose is a great host, he was quick to respond to all our questions and requests and helped us a lot with finding the best things to do in the area. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to travel and see the beautiful “blue falls” and to anyone looking to relax in a quiet, peaceful place.

MelissaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
What an amazing stay. The view, the hosts, the details in the house, the animals (including his personal dog who I became best friends with). The view was a dream, I close my eyes and I can just see it. Thomas was super helpful, gave us clear instructions on how to arrive and was very responsive to my requests/questions. Would definitely return, might become his long-temp guest!

Pool, ocean view, walk to beach.

PaulRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Karen & Chiri were ideal hosts. They provided useful information on activities and events in the area. Their house was clean, well equipped and we felt safe & comfortable during our week there. The pool was refreshing and in a beautiful setting. The kitchen was well equipped and the furnishings were comfortable and aesthetically pleasing too. The location was convenient to local eateries and the beach. Their suggestions for local dining and activities were a big help and didn’t disappoint. We throughly enjoyed our week here and didn’t want to leave.

Private Beach Front Villa

MeganRating, 5 stars2 months ago
This was definitely the most beautiful home I've ever stayed in. The view is simply breathtaking. Everything was as it was described, we loved walking the beach, playing in the pool and relaxing in one of the several comfortable outdoor spots. Never having stayed in a house with a personal concierge, I wasn't sure what to expect. You really can't help but come to love Vincente, with his kind spirit and dedication to this home. Our only complaint about this house was that it was so wonderful, we felt guilty leaving it to go out and explore this incredible area in Costa Rica!

Private Pool Manuel Antonio Monkey House 3Bed

StephanieRating, 5 stars2 months ago
The Monkey House is a great place to observe wildlife and take in the sorrounding nature. We definitely appreciated the hospitality and the cold AC available every night. We personally loved that the AC sounded like falling rain and it made our stay even more enjoyable. Expect minimal bugs and an occasional lizard (which we loved) as you would in any tropical environment. Sam was very friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic about sharing recommendations for the area!

Luxury home, incredible ocean views, infinity pool

ClareRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Spectacular home - so spacious and decorated beautifully. The view from the entire home is gorgeous and the pool is a wonderful respite from the heat. We spent very little time indoors except to sleep, choosing to lounge and sit at the various lovely spots they created. Although it's a steep drive, even in the heavy rain (which we had a lot of as we were there during rainy season), we didn't struggle to make it in our Rav 4. This was great to come home to after a day out, and spending time there had a big impact on how great our trip was overall.

Ventanas Villa II w/ Private Pool

JamesRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Beautiful, private, secure and naturistic property! The home(s) itself are very welcoming and generously supplied with all comforts and luxuries as depicted. The furniture and beds are very comfortable. It had everything anyone will need for short or long term visit! We loved having the private pool and the local beaches are some of the best the country has to offer. Situated between Jaco and Quepos, the region allows for visits and hikes thru National Parks, some of the best waterfalls in the country. The house layout separates the sleeping areas from the common areas. The elevated, comfy shaded patio was perfect for watching bird and animal life. It is the most picturesque location in the area. It is a beautiful community to walk around. You will feel extremely safe here as well. The hosts, both Rosie and Bruno are very personable to ensure your experience is second to none! I cannot wait to come back to this very special place and home!

Your guide to Costa Rica

All About Costa Rica

Pura Vida, or pure life, is the unofficial national motto of Costa Rica, which perfectly encapsulates a laid-back way of life that permeates much of this eco-conscious country. This tropical Central American destination is widely known for its dedication to green spaces, sustainable tourism, and conservation — providing an abundance of land set aside for public use and wilderness recreation, making it one of the world’s premier destinations for adventure travel. And with nature reserves and national forests covering 25 percent of the country, there’s a commitment to sustainable living and accessible fun that’s ever-present in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is also one of the most biodiverse places on earth, with climates and ecologies ranging from high-altitude cloud forests among active volcanoes to the Nicoya Peninsula’s lush beachside surf villages, where you’ll find plenty of eco tours and ziplining adventures. The country has pristine coastlines along the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, each side offering distinct cultures, wildlife, and recreational opportunities — including surfing, diving, and horseback treks through the jungle. The capital city of San José is known for its museums — dedicated to gold, jade, and the arts, among other collections — and vibrant street markets.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has a range of microclimates, and due to the Talamanca Mountain Range running through the center of the country, each coast has opposing wet seasons. If you’re visiting the Pacific coast, the ideal time to rent a house in Costa Rica is between December and April, when you’ll have plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures for beachgoing activities and exploring the lush rainforests. On the second Sunday in March, el Dia de los Boyeros (Oxcart Drivers’ Day) is marked with ornately hand-painted carts and a parade of dancers and drivers in Escazú, just outside San José. From September to October, the seasons flip, and the Pacific will be inundated with rain while the Caribbean coasts remain sunny and dry.

Because of this seasonal tradeoff, you can get away with renting a home in Costa Rica and spending time in the coastal communities most times of the year. However, if you plan on exploring the inland mountain regions, it is essential to visit in the Pacific dry season, as many of the trails and forests become too rainy to enjoy.

Top things to do in Costa Rica

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve

This biodiverse reserve of mostly virgin forest sits in the mountains surrounding the villages of Monteverde and Santa Elena. Although you can get a day pass for self-guided trips, you can also hire knowledgeable guides on-site to explain the dense high-altitude jungle ecologies that are home to jaguars, pumas, spider monkeys, and hundreds of species of birds and reptiles. For added excitement, consider one of the many ziplining tours or guided night walks.

San José

San José is the capital city and cultural center of Costa Rica, with plenty to offer in terms of history, art, entertainment, and culinary appeal. Museums like the Museo del Oro Precolombino — home to thousands of gold relics, figurines, and artifacts from the area’s early Mesoamerican civilizations — are just a short walk from the sprawling green spaces of Parque Metropolitano La Sabana, the city’s largest park, which contains the national sports stadium and art museum. Wandering San José’s meandering palm-lined streets is another way to discover the country’s culinary traditions. You’ll find plenty of cafes, high-end restaurants, and local eateries serving traditional casado plates — featuring black beans, rice, and a choice of protein — around every corner.

Montezuma

Miles of pristine white-sand beaches, dense palm forests, and cliffside waterfalls line this small beachside community along the southern edge of the Nicoya Peninsula. Set among some of the wildest tropical forests in the country, the village provides opportunities to explore areas like the towering Montezuma Falls and Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, with its miles of trails through thick-vined jungles home to wild storks and white-faced capuchin monkeys. The warm turquoise waters of the Gulf of Nicoya offer excellent snorkeling and diving, with world-class breaks that attract surfing enthusiasts from the world over.
