Home in Água de Alto

Home in Lagoa
4.99 out of 5 average rating, 103 reviewsCastanheiro
Pedro and Ania’s place was perfect for our two-week stay in the Azores. Our 2-year-old son loved playing on the enclosed terrace under the old chestnut tree, and we didn’t have to watch him every second. The apartment is well-equipped and simply furnished, with a child-friendly setup without any unnecessary frills. It was also one of the cleanest Airbnbs we’ve ever booked. Pedro was attentive throughout our stay, always ensuring we were comfortable and had what we needed. He gave us tips about the island and assisted with anything related to the accommodation. Our place was even cleaned once during the second week. During the week, it can be a bit noisy on the terrace due to traffic, but it didn’t bother us since we’re a small family and can be noisy ourselves. In the evenings and on weekends, however, the street is very quiet. Starting every morning with breakfast and a sea view gave a real holiday vibe. We definitely recommend this apartment, also as a base for exploring the island
Home in Furnas
4.96 out of 5 average rating, 126 reviewsChez Marie - Vale das Furnas
Marie's place was an absolute dream. The home was extremely spacious, modern while keeping the 'Azores' theme, clean, and truly beautiful. The views were spectacular and the backyard was much larger and private than I initially thought. Marie provided us with excellent recommendations for different restaurants and activities. We had very little questions during our stay because Marie was so thorough. There were a few things we experienced that we think may be helpful for the next guest. 1. Parking is available, but if you get back late, some spots may be taken by nearby neighbors. On the plus side, you can park on the street and the area seemed very safe. 2. You'll get an uphill workout walking back from Furnas. I didn't mind this, especially after a heavy meal. It's not a long hill, but it is steep. 3. The main bed is an American King, which was a great surprise. If you're staying in Furnas, Marie's place is a must. It's central to so many places and such a wonderful retreat.
Home in Sete Cidades,
4.94 out of 5 average rating, 169 reviewsCasa do Galo
One of the best stays we’ve ever had. I read reviews very carefully before booking, and the reviews of this awesome property and host are very accurate! Not much I can add that hasn’t been said. This home is a perfect base for a relaxing, peaceful & authentic stay in Sete Cidades.
Home in Vila Franca Do Campo
4.95 out of 5 average rating, 111 reviewsHOUSE OF THE DAYS
It’s all about the view! Simply amazing with the sound of the waves, the sunrise and sunset from the windows and balcony every day, the islet just off shore, and the quiet dead end street location. Walking to whatever you need is definitely doable from this rental location. The ac/hearing/fan units did their job nicely to cool things off or get rid of the moisture too. Very quiet place inside once all the windows were closed for sleeping. We used the public parking lot a couple of blocks away to make it easier and less risky of getting dinged. If u stay here, you have to take the ferry out to the islet for an amazing experience!

Tiny home in São Roque do Pico
5 out of 5 average rating, 32 reviewsCasa do Caramba - The Dream House
This peaceful, private home is down a paved road about 1.3 miles from the main rd. At the end of the remote drive you will find only 2 homes separated with grape vines and stone walls. There are 2 lounge chairs and wicker seating with a table for outside with very pretty gardens created around you. The views are stunning of sao jorge and if you are lucky enough to get some rain you will have your own waterfall to the west of the house!. The house is cozy warm from the wood stove in October with plenty of dry wood and fire starters. We loved the sunroom mostly as an open air detached space with lots is candles and the crashing waves. Bring groceries on your first day, closest town is about 15 minutes away. We had requested one additional and Carlos arrived in 30 minutes. Recommend 4 wheel drive. The experience will be once in a lifetime…

Cabin in Lombinha da Maia

We absolutely loved our stay at this air bnb. Waking up to the warm colours of sunrise over the ocean was a highlight. Marie-Louise and Joel provided many great recommendations for our time on the island and their hand crafted home was the perfect home base for our daily adventures. Highly recommend!

Heaven! You seriously feel like in paradise! Nestor and Susana were amazing hosts! We felt like home and family. We visited a lot of their local recommendations and they were all top notch! We fell in love with this location and Santa Maria all together! The hikes are out of this world!! Highly recommended!
Yurt in Horta
5 out of 5 average rating, 58 reviewsAzul Singular - Yurt
This stay at Azul Singular with Pedro and Antonia was by far the best experience we've ever had from Airbnb. Simply perfection. The Yurt we stayed in was unique, in absolutely beautiful and secluded surroundings and in pristine condition. Pedro is the most attentive and caring host who made us feel right at home. The attention to detail is what you would expect from a high-scale hotel. Honestly could not recommend more, hope to be back someday!
Cottage in Fagundas
5 out of 5 average rating, 21 reviewsAzores House_Retreat
We had a wonderful stay at Miguel and Silvia’s house. The setting is absolutely beautiful and extremely private. We slept so well listening to the waves all night. As others have mentioned, the drive there isn’t for the faint of heart but it’s fine and we felt safe doing it. There is a very small town less than ten minutes from the house where you can get basic supplies and a coffee but if you plan to cook you should grocery shop in a larger town on the way to the house. It’s a very peaceful and exceptionally beautiful home. We had some issues with power outages but Maria, who is lovely and cares for the house, was very responsive and helpful. She even made us dinner one night since we could not cook. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place to stay, we highly recommend this rental.
Your guide to Azores
All About Azores
Located in the mid-Atlantic Ocean, the Azores is an autonomous region of Portugal. The Azores is made up of nine islands that are home to striking landscapes, fishing villages, rolling green hills, and many volcanoes. They are a great vacation spot for nature lovers — spend days going on hikes, visiting caves, and going on whale watching tours. Every island is slightly different and has something unique to offer visitors.
The Azores boast some of Portugal’s most dramatic beaches covered with black volcanic sand and you can swim, surf, or kayak at several of them. They can be found throughout the island chain and it is also possible to find picture-perfect white sand beaches on the island of Santa Maria. Azores is home to many small towns overflowing with museums, churches, shops, restaurants, bars, and Azores vacation homes. Angra do Heroismo, Vila Franca do Campo, and Ponta Delgada provide a great base to explore the islands’ spectacular natural environment.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Azores
The best time to stay in a vacation home in the Azores is June through August. This is when the weather is the nicest with warm, sunny days and low rainfall, which is great if you want to spend a lot of time outdoors. The spring and fall generally have slightly lower temperatures but you can still find plenty of Azores vacation rentals. The winter is slightly chillier and rain could make it difficult to do some of the outdoor activities. However, you can explore the islands with very few other visitors around. It is possible to go on whale watching and bird watching trips all year round and with a little prior planning, it is also possible to visit many of the geotourism sites.
Top things to do in Azores
Whale Watching Tours
Home to more than 25 different species of whales, the Azores is a great spot for whale watching. From April until September, it is possible to see blue whales as they migrate past the Azores. You can also spot sperm whales throughout the year. While São Miguel is the most popular island for whale watching, it is also possible to see them from the shorelines of Faial and Pico Islands.
Angra do Heroismo
Often simply called Angra, the city of Angra do Heroismo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the island of Terceira. The city was an essential port of call for maritime traffic to Africa and the Americas. There are many historical attractions including an imposing fort, monuments, palaces, and museums.
Lagoa de Fogo
Located on São Miguel Island, the Lagoa de Fogo (Lake of Fire) is an enormous crater lake and is one of the Azores’ largest bodies of water. It is located in a gorgeous nature reserve where you can admire the beautiful scenery from different viewpoints or explore one of the many hiking trails.
