Bungalow in Pepeekeo
4.97 out of 5 average rating, 330 reviewsHeavenly Hakalau: Oceanfront Cliff House
Super great place with everything you need! Their cliff house overlooks the ocean and area is quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed sitting on the out on the deck with our coffee while looking at the vast ocean view. Joseph is a first class host, he gave us excellent suggestions of several local spots to visit! We had a fantastic stay there! We only wish we would have stayed one more day to fully take in the beautiful area.
Home in Makawao
4.99 out of 5 average rating, 107 reviewsPrivate Luxurious Cottage
This cottage is a literally slice of heaven in upcountry Maui. It’s very clean, extremely private, and has every item and amenity you could ask for. A perfect place for a romantic stay. The outdoor soaking tub is an incredible feature, we used it early in the morning to watch the sunrise and late at night to star gaze. The landscaping on the property is pristine and you could spend hours just walking around looking at all the plants and flowers. The cottage is a great distance from everything in Maui, very close (8-10 mins) to some great restaurants in Makawao, and only about 25 minutes to Paia. Only a 30 minute drive from the airport, and also super conveniently located if you want to go to either side of the island. We stayed for 6 days and never got tired of being at the cottage, we were so sad to leave! This is a very very special place!!

We spent three nights in this beautiful Airbnb, located just a short drive away from the Volcanoes National Park. Beautiful place – we very much enjoyed the hot tub in front of the fire; as well as the privacy the cabin offers. Can only recommend for visiting this side of Big Island!

Guesthouse in Hawi
4.95 out of 5 average rating, 138 reviewsHale Iki, new cottage in Hawi town
I loved staying at Christine's guesthouse in Hawi. It was truly a magical place that I will def be booking again in the near future. She was very clear in her instructions and very availible in terms of response time. Her little puppy was super cute too and a great addition to the trip. We love Kiko! 10/10 rec ommend this spot to other guests. <3

This beautiful home was even better than the pictures. It felt like we had our own private island paradise! Watching the sunrise from bed and sitting on the balcony at night to stargaze were just a few of the highlights. The outdoor shower and hot tub were awesome too! Can’t wait to go back someday!

Condo in Princeville
4.99 out of 5 average rating, 285 reviews~The Surfshack~ with breathtaking ocean views!!
The view! Worth every penny! We scheduled dinners out to be back for the sunset every night. Private access to a small beach is literally steps away. Not really a swimmable beach, but beautiful all the same. Most days no one was even there. We chilled on the beach and in tidal pools. The condo has everything you need. There are plenty of towels and beach gear. Great little touches like after sun aloe spray in both bathrooms, and all-natural bug spray on the balcony. Beds are super-comfy with plenty of pillow/blanket options. The master bedroom has an air conditioner, but it’s a little loud. We found that open windows, the ceiling fan and stand fan from downstairs made for quieter and actually cooler nights. The cross breeze in the downstairs bedroom was perfect for afternoon naps! We can recommend Saenz Ohana food truck for breakfast, Chicken in a Barrel for lunch and Postcards for dinner. Foodland has the best ahi poke on the island, IMO! Aloha and Mahalo for a wonderful stay!

Peaceful stay. Last visit was in 2016-restaurant has been updated as has the pool. Waterfront but not a swim beach-really need transportation to get to some of the beaches. I love this place and would happily return

4.93 out of 5 average rating, 137 reviewsAlamoana Hotel 29FL Studio City&Partial Ocean View
We stayed at Leanna's place for 2 weeks and found the location was great and certainly met our needs. It is located in the Ala Moana Hotel, and is a short walk to the mall and approximately a 10 to 15 to Magic Island Beach. We mostly walked, but also used the bus and Uber for further away places. Leanna kept in touch and supplied many additional towels during our stay. The USB hub was perfect for the charging of many devices. There are resort fees to be paid with staying in the hotel, however the gym and pool were awesome. There is a laundry on another floor, just make sure you have plenty of quarters, you can buy $5 packs of them from reception. Housekeeping will pick up your trash, after you have called them. We were there in October and this unit with a partial ocean view did not get the sun on the lanai, which was a blessing, otherwise it would have been exceptionally hot. Very pleasant to have breakfast out there. Overall a great experience, mahalo Leanna for your care ❤️

Rental unit in Waialua
4.94 out of 5 average rating, 109 reviews*** Beachfront Open Studio - steps to the Ocean *
We enjoyed our stay here. It’s steps from the ocean. At night we loved hearing the waves crash/ocean which was so relaxing. Although you can hear your neighbors and footsteps above it’s worth it to stay there. The place is bigger than you think. The tub was nice along with the outdoor shower. Your near Hale’iwa town and North Shore. Plenty of things to do such as Waimea Valley (botanical garden/waterfall), Shark Cove (snorkeling), Laniakea beach (turtle beach). There’s plenty of food options such as Giovanni Shrimp truck, Teddy burgers (which has sport tvs), Matsumoto shave iced, Ted’s Bakery, etc.

We had a really nice stay on Big Island in the apartment from Paul. Everything is like described and as it can be seen in the pictures. Cabin in Kula
4.98 out of 5 average rating, 249 reviewsMalu Manu
Definitely the most unique and beautiful Airbnb I have ever stayed in! The photos of the views from the cabin could never do it justice. Absolutely breathtaking. You're just a short drive down the mountain from great restaurants and a Foodland. Don't take the upcountry neighborhoods in Maui for granted! They have so much to offer in Kula and Makawao. You are also in the perfect spot to drive up Haleakala and get on the Road To Hana. The host was so thoughtful and hospitable, providing fresh flowers, fruits, and breakfast items for our stay. Felt like a true retreat. You do not want to miss an opportunity to stay here!

Your guide to Hawaii
Welcome to Hawaii
What we see as the eight islands of the Hawaiian archipelago are in reality the visible peaks of a sprawling oceanic mountain range that first erupted into existence more than 65 million years ago. Today the resulting tropical landscapes outlined by some of the world’s most breathtaking beaches host millions of visitors seeking warm weather, brightly colored sunsets, crystal-clear waters, and maybe even the occasional whale or sea turtle sighting against the backdrop of paradise.
But what makes Hawaii particularly special is the opportunity to discover your favorite island specific to your interests. Island hopping is easy and reasonably affordable, so whether you prefer the cosmopolitan luxuries of Honolulu, the laid-back vibes of Maui, the rugged landscape of the Big Island, or the breathtaking biodiversity of Kauai, there’s an opportunity to mix and match should you want to wander.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Hawaii
A year-around temperate tropical climate buffered from trade winds means almost any time is a good time to stay in one of the many scenic vacation rentals on the Hawaiian islands. That said, each island hosts a multitude of microclimates and localized weather specific to its unique geography. This means it’s possible to experience all four seasons in one day, especially across the biggest island of Hawai’i, where 11 out of 13 climate zones can deliver both sunburns and frostbite if you’re ill prepared. The windward (north and east) sides of islands tend to be wetter, while coastal regions along the south and west sides can be so dry that cacti can be spotted growing along hillsides. Pack layers in preparation for a surprise rain shower or a chilly welcome at the top of a volcano. And be sure to bring high-strength sunscreen, as it’s easy to burn under a tropic sun.
Top things to do in Hawaii
The Road to Hana (Maui)
Traveling Maui’s 64.4-mile stretch of winding coastal cliff-hugging highway and one-way bridges can admittedly be a white-knuckled experience, but the journey rewards with unforgettable sights along the way: waterfalls emptying into emerald pools, empty stretches of beaches, and black sand beaches where local kids build sandcastles. Most visitors turn back after reaching the sleepy town of Hana, but those who continue to complete the loop will take in a surreal and sometimes barren landscape shaped by volcanic forces still slumbering underneath.
Alakai Swamp Trail (Kauai)
Walking through the world's highest rainforest can be both disorienting and magical. The boardwalk trail is often blanketed by a swirling layer of fog, slowing your pace to a shuffle. But this is all to hikers’ benefit, provoking visitors to stop, listen, and look around more carefully than if the path was easier. Unusual accumulations of moss and fruiting mushrooms can be found all along the way, with rare endemic birds often heard but rarely seen, masked by the dense vegetation. The hike ends at Kilohana Lookout, where on a clear day you’ll look out onto the depths of Wainiha Valley all the way out to Hanalei.
Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park (Hawaii)
For most of us, walking upon an active volcano crater might be the closest we’ll get to visiting another planet. And indeed, the landscape of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park frames an otherworldly geological scar — a hot, steaming, hissing wound stinking of sulfur dioxide gas. For those hesitant to get that up close and personal, the 11-mile route known as the Crater Rim Drive allows you to take in the view safely from your car, or at various lookouts or observation decks from a distance.
