시은재 (Si-eun-jae)
Sieunjae means “hidden place in the middle of the city”.
We invite and welcome you to Sieunjae, a traditional Korean house, where you can feel the breadth of history from the Chosun dynasty (1392 -1910) to the present.
In this Korean traditional giwajip (tile-roofed house) with a 149-year history, the artistic touch of the palace carpenter is integrated with sturdy construction, thick timber beams, and the daechungmaru (spacious wide open wooden floor).
Sophisticated works of art by various famous artists from the Chosun era are attached to each pillar of the house, most notably a plaque by Chusa Kim Jung Hee who was known as the most famous calligrapher in Chosun.
While maintaining its original look, the house is equipped with a modern heating system, a contemporary restroom with a shower, a kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave oven, washer and dishwasher.
Small and cozy, but with a courtyard open to the blue skies of Seoul, Sieunjae is located in the heart of the city. Insadong, an area bustling with Korean traditional culture and the arts, is located 5 minutes away; public transportation (subway) stations for Lines 1, 3, and 5 can be reached in 3-5 minutes.
You will find a most memorable cultural experience by staying at Sieunjae. We hope you will visit, and welcome.
