The space
Located in the center of the historic hamlet of Rensselaerville, the Catalpa House dates from 1806 and boasts a long history of hospitality, operating as a boarding house continuously from the 1920's to 70's. Lovingly refurbished with vintage fixtures to maintain the historic charm, fresh updates feature designer wallpaper and enveloping colors to evoke a modern Shangri-La. It is our pleasure to open our home to travelers looking for a restful retreat as well as the friends' and family of our own colorful community.

Neighborhood highlights

The former mill town, established around 1780, hugs the banks of Ten Mile creek in the Helderberg Hills, 40 minutes northwest of the Hudson Amtrak station. The hamlet is a registered historic district with well kept examples of period architecture, a quaint library and historical society museum housed in the old mill. It is a few steps from the mill to the arresting Rensselaerville Falls and an entry point to the Huyck Preserve and biological research station. Follow the miles of well maintained, gently rising trails that take you around Lake Myosotis and into the forest preserve or park at the beach and enjoy the sun setting over the water.
