This charming home is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Step back in time while you enjoy all that Brownsville has to offer. Learn about the people who lived in this home in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Come find where Virgil Averill scratched his name into one of the window panes in the kitchen in 1912. Live a piece of Brownsville's history. Walking distance to Main Street, The Moyer House and many of the "Stand By Me" filming locations.

The space
This house is small, but quite charming! It was built in 1865, the year the Civil War ended, so it comes with lots of history. The living room is adorned with photos of our family from the mid to late 19th Century, the early 20th Century as well as a great photo of the Averill family when they lived here, standing in front of the house...wood sidewalk included!

The upstairs was originally built as an attic so the steps to the upstairs are steep and uneven (frankly, if you have bad knees, while not impossible, it could be very difficult to go upstairs). Because the house is old, it does have some old house quirks...like uneven floors, single pane (and in most cases, original wavy glass) windows and small rooms.

The kitchen and bathrooms, however, are modern, and fully stocked. You'll find extra towels, if needed. The kitchen has plenty of cooking supplies; even for baking!

Guest access
The entire house, inside and out is available to enjoy! The shed and one closet are reserved for the owners but it does not impede your stay at all.

Other things to note
While this house has been renovated over the years, it still has some old house quirks like doors that don't close flush, rough hewn wood in the stairwell, old wavy glass in the windows and original flooring, some of which can be a little uneven...but all of which adds to the charm of this historic house.

Please be aware that the steps to the upstairs loft and bedroom are steep and a little difficult to navigate. Heating is plentiful in the Winter. For the Summer, there is no AC but there are plenty of fans (two tower, one floor and four bedsides).

Paul loves woodworking, making toys for the grandchildren, while Lauren knits blankets, stuffed animals and other fun things also for the grandchildren (and sometimes for the military hospitals). We travel A LOT in our pickup camper, going all over the country(we have traveled over 54,000 miles since 2020). Our camper is called Hagrid, because it's big, it's really nice and it takes us to magical places.
