The space
Welcome to The Fiddlehead House!
Nestled in the North Cascade mountains, our cabin was built in 1961 and has an amazing view of the Skykomish River (no direct access to the river, but there is a nice swimming hole nearby). Our cabin is the perfect basecamp to explore all that the Cascades have to offer! After a day of hiking the many local trails you can soak in the hot tub and listen to the river flow by.
At 230 square feet, this is definitely a tiny house. It sleeps one couple comfortably and an extra person on the pull out couch in living room. It’s a twin size bed. We do supply blankets but bring extra if you like more than 1 or 2 blankets.
For those chilly mountain evenings there is a wood stove in the living room, a fire pit outside, and a hot tub on the deck. The kitchen has everything you'll need to cook a meal. And there's a nook for eating or getting some work done (with surprisingly fast wifi). Before booking though, there are a couple of things to note about our cabin. First, the staircase up to the sleeping loft is quite steep and narrow. Second, the cabin uses an incinerating toilet. It’s imperative to use it correctly. It’s super easy but if not used it creates a mess and extra cleaning for us and we do charge $75 extra if this happens. It’s completely avoidable if used properly!!Directions are on the wall in bathroom and it’s VERY SIMPLE.
Guest access
The entire property is yours while you stay here. And there is a place for two cars to park out front. The cabin is located in a private community with a security gate to enter the neighborhood.
NOTEWORTHY MENTIONS:
This cabin is not suitable for infants and young children. The ladder to the loft is quite steep.
The incinerating toilet is easy to use. But for the first 20 minutes after "flushing" it produces an odor outside the cabin. Smells like burning wax or plastic. Nothing any guests have complained about. It’s important to USE IT CORRECTLY EACH TIME!
SEASONAL COMFORTS:
In the Winter this area can get quite a bit of snow. The road is plowed, but it can still be an icy drive. A 4 wheel drive car is necessary if it's been snowing.
We supply Fire wood upon request BEFORE CHECK IN. If you use what is there, you pay for it. It’s necessary to have wood in winter to keep the cabin warm. We don’t have a heating system. Only a heater and the wood stove. If using wood stove the cabin stays VERY WARM. A general rule is a bundle a night. So, 2 nights on the safe side is 2-4 bundles.
LOCATION:
Our cabin is on a gravel road that runs along the Skykomish River. It's a quiet area. The neighbors are friendly and it's a nice place to go for a walk. Please be mindful that the cabin is located in a private community. We ask that you respect the neighbors and posted private property/no trespassing signs. There are alas also neighbors on both sides of the cabin. Be responsible and adhere to QUIET HOURS 10pm-8am.
GETTING AROUND:
You can park directly in front of the house. 2 cars maximum parked single file in front of cabin. The cabin is in the forest, so to get here and to explore the area you absolutely need a car. Happy Adventuring!
Other things to note
WiFi is spotty and works best in bedroom area! This is NOT a place for work if you need 100% WiFi functionality!
We have a large fan in bedroom for summer and it will cool a lot once sun is down. keep the windows open while the heat exits the cabin.
Winter we have a heater and wood stove for fire inside and a fire pit outside.
Lots of blankets and the wood stove really heats the cabin fast! Bring warm clothes for nights and mornings. Slippers are a must!
We stock s’mores, coffee, hot cocoa and some cooking stuff like salt pepper, oil, foil. We have everything you need to cook a meal!
