The space
This is your own mini-house, standing alone amongst the trees with your own parking spot directly beside.
To follow us on IG we are Finca_Cacao, here you can see some videos and more about life at this classy casita on Finca Cacao
You enter the house through a screened door, into the screened room which also serves as the living space with a couple of comfy outdoor couches.
The giant glass sliding doors open up, allowing plenty of ventilation which, combined with the ceiling fans keep you cool and comfy most of the year. If you prefer, we have an ample-sized AC unit too.
The casita is a studio-efficiency which means it is one room, and the same room includes the kitchen. The kitchen has an electric 2 burner cook top, a toaster oven, high-powered blender, french press, coffee maker, big mixing bowls for salads etc, and all the utensils you need to make your own healthy meals at home.
The fridge is a full-sized fridge with freezer on top. Next to this, there is a good sized pantry where you can store your food.
Water- so important and so many places don't have good water: we have well-water here, which is double filtered through sediment filters, then goes through a UV filter before being delivered to your casita. In addition to this, we have a Berkey water filter on the countertop in the kitchen so you can have complete peace of mind that your drinking water is clean, and that you do not need to keep buying water from the store!
A common-area BBQ and pool is shared by the owner's house, and soon to be 2 more casitas that are also located on the property. You can see the layout if you check the aerial photo in the gallery.
The bathroom has a toilet and sink, with generous cabinets underneath- and a door opens out to the shower which is partially under roof, and partially under sky.
Instant hot water brings hot water to the bathroom, shower and kitchen sink.
The mattress is super comfy, the sheets are soft an light, and there is a large assortment of pillows to ensure your neck and body are well rested!
Corynne (one of the owners) is a massage therapist of 24 years who also offers craniosacral therapy- treat yourself to a session while you are here.

Guests have access to the entire property- for respectful enjoyment.
Marvel in the gardens, the abundance of birds and biodiversity.
Before using the Cacao Pod (yoga/ massage space) please quietly make sure a session isn't already in progress.
BBQ area and pool are open from 6am to 8pm unless you have booked the entire property of Finca Cacao.

KEY POINTS listed BELOW
-NOISE
-SURFING ETIQUETTE
-WEATHER
Noise:
On occasion, our neighbors across the road like to unwind by putting their music on fairly loud. They have a tiny house, and it often blows our mind that their ear-drums can handle it lol. This tends to be on weekends, usually Friday or Saturday evenings. It usually doesn’t go for too long, or too late, but it is something outside of our control.
The further deeper into Finca Cacao you go, the less you hear, with Casita Cacao being the one closest to the road and therefore the most noise.
It is typically local/ spanish/ CR music and sometimes some 90’s pop- and we just smile and understand they are doing what they enjoy on their limited time off work.
In most Latin countries, culturally, noise is viewed differently to Western culture. We lived for many years in a gated community which had it's upsides, and downsides- however, where we live now is more the real Costa Rica- with the good, and the less good.
Across the street, Gaby's restaurant sometimes is hopping. Mostly on weekends, sometimes week days. Rarely does their music go past 10pm but it might.
It never keeps us up or stops us from sleeping- the ceiling fans provide good white noise.
We just like to give everyone the possible downsides- so there are no avoidable surprises.
Surfing:
If you are a surfer, please reacquaint yourself with the rules and etiquette of surfing, particularly at a pointbreak.
The idea is to be a safe, respectful human in the line-up.
Key points are:
***Wait your turn and share: do not paddle around others who have been waiting and take wave after wave.
*** When you first paddle out, do not paddle straight to the top of the point and sit there.
To diffuse tension in the line-up and set a good standard, paddle further down the line and, ensure you let at least the first set go by, making a poiunt to let others who have been waiting longer, have their turn.
***Do not drop in on anyone. Closest to peak has priority, yet this is also nuanced. See the first point.
***If you aren’t an experienced surfer, go deeper into the bay towards the tail end of the waves.
Ask us for clarification or if in doubt on any of these points.
We do not welcome any surfer who is behaving in a selfish and/ or disrespectful way in the water.
We have no problem being direct and pointing out undesirable surf behaviour!!
We look forward to welcoming guests who enjoy time in the surf in a conscious, and respectful way.
It is important to us that everyone has fun, and good vibes in the waves- and that not one person who stays with us thinks they are entitled to as many waves as they want, simply because they are here on vacation and paying their way.
We are all guests in the beautiful country and culture of Costa Rica, sharing in the stoke.
Weather:
This area in Southern Pacific Costa Rica is one of the highest rainfall areas of the country.
From December to late March, typically it is the 'dry' season. It can still rain in the dry season.
This area is green year round, if we are lucky, and the jungle is part of the paradise. Be prepared that it will definitely rain between March and December- usually for part of the day... sometimes only at night... sometimes all day.
The time of year most likely to rain for days on end is October and November. This is a great time to come if you want to write a book, get some work done online, play pickleball in our covered courts, surf in the rain, and do other indoor activities like chocolate making and cooking classes.
