You will find yogurt, fruit and coffee in your room.

The space
Our home is conveniently located about half way between Charleston and the beach (Folly).

Peter Demetre Sunrise Park and James Island County Park (home to the Holiday Festival of Lights every November and December) are each about 3 miles away.

The Charleston Tea Garden and The Angel Oak (the oldest living thing east of the Mississippi River) are located on nearby Wadmalaw and Johns Islands.

What We Offer

- a squeaky-clean room with private entrance and private bath with free fruit, yogurt, snacks, waters, coffee, tea, a personal mini fridge and a microwave. (Microwave is shared on the back deck.)

We are licensed by Charleston County (Lic # 026808) as a Bed and Breakfast. However, we no longer serve hot breakfast

- a shared but beautiful back deck beneath 200 year old Grand Live Oaks

- a crabbing and shrimping dock where you may catch bait fish for that big expedition later in the day or you may choose to load into our free kayaks and explore the glorious marsh and tidal creek (at high tide).

Finally, we offer a friendly host who has local knowledge and a serene backyard setting with intrusions from very few other guests. (We only rent three rooms.)

We feel this makes us a little above average. Our price-point is exactly right for some folks. We truly wish you the best in finding your perfect getaway location.

Guest access
Guest in this room may share the back deck by walking around the house and up 6 steps. One may also share space by walking to the dock.

During your stay
I'm home much of the time but will be in another part of the property. I respond to questions via the AirBnB messanger usually quickly.
I make a contactless stay with me very practical.
Other guests will likely be on the property.

Other things to note
What we are

We are a 1960’s brick rancher with three guest rooms which happen to each have a private entrance for your room and a private bath. You won’t be walking through our living room to reach your guest quarters or your private bath. (Sorry to have to say that two ways but we will still get questions about it.)
We are a licensed business and the town of James Island, SC allows 3 rooms in your home to be a legal bed and breakfast. Otherwise, short term rental is not legal in the town of James Island.
We once served a hot breakfast but Covid-19 moved us to put more snacks in your rooms and stop the hot meal interface. (Probably not a great loss in a foodie city like Charleston.)
I am on-site, accessible by messenger most of the time and live at the opposite end of the house from our guest rooms.
We are located in a wooded and picturesque section of the town with a tidal creek in the backyard.
Our kayaks are available for your free use during high tide each day. Just ask us for a safety, navigation and regulatory briefing.

We love pets but are no longer able to allow them in our home. Guests who book our Boathouse, may visit with their pet.

Neighborhood highlights

This is called North Riverview subdivision or by the locals, Julian Clark Plantation. It's a fairly well kept secret to be as sleepy as it is yet close to everything.
We're squarely middle class, dog and people friendly.
You'll experience huge 200+ year old Live Oak trees on the property because this land was once considered too close to the marsh to cultivate, so no one bothered to cut them down. (Live Oaks are the strongest and longest living of the Oak family. The City of Charleston's Angel Oak Park on nearby John's Island is estimated to be between 600-1300 years old or to say it another way, the oldest documented living thing east of the Mississippi River.)

Hi. I'm Dan and I'm a semi-retired widower. I've spent most of the last 40 years in the biotechnology industry. Two decades ago I was involved (in a very peripheral way) in the Human Genome Project. I'm a lifelong sailor of sailboats and small power boats, a former marine surveyor & former USCG licensed 100 Ton Master. As your host, I try to find a way to improve your Charleston visit and get out of the way. Welcome to the Low Country!
